Our Neighbourhood Support Waitematā District 🤍

What an enjoyable and inspiring catch up earlier this week with Neighbourhood Support Waitematā District Coordinators at NBR 12 in Greenhithe. ☕💙
Over a cuppa and some shared kai, we enjoyed a productive discussion about what's happening in our communities, sharing ideas, successes, challenges, and updates from around the district. There is a lot happening behind the scenes including the development of some fabulous resources. 😊
Our meeting was a great reminder of the important role Neighbourhood Support plays in building connected, resilient, and caring communities. 🏡🤝

Street Party in Birkdale! 🎉
A relaxed driveway BBQ before the rain rolled in ☁️🌦️. It was fantastic to see neighbours connecting across different ages, backgrounds, and walks of life.

Thank you to the Kaipatiki Local Board for their continuous support to North Shore Neighbourhood Support. We hope to activate more streets in the Kaipatiki community!

Message from Fire and Emergency NZ about electric blankets

A faulty electric blanket is a fire waiting to happen. If you feel unusually hot patches in your electric blanket, or if it is more than 5 years old, replace it now.

Check for hotspots in your blanket by turning it on high for 15 mins, then switching it off and running your hand over the blanket

You should also make sure:
- Blankets are rolled during storage, not folded
- Blankets are always turned off before going to sleep, cords and controls are not twisted, and the blanket lies flat on the bed
- Heavy objects are never placed on the bed while the electric blanket is in use.

REMEMBER: CHECK THE HEAT BEFORE YOU SLEEP

Sunset BBQ in Fairview Heights! Thank you to all the residents who came by, brought food, and got to meet someone new!

We were also excited that residents were interested in making a plan in their households so that they are prepared!

Thank you to Albany Activator, Dani Mulhern and the Upper Harbour Local Board for sponsoring and collaborating on this street party 🥳

Another street connected! 🤩

Street party in Long Bay 🤩

What started as two neighbours reaching out turned into one big shared celebration across our streets — and it couldn’t have worked out better.

So awesome to see everyone come together, meet new faces, reconnect with familiar ones, and just enjoy a laid-back day filled with good chats, laughter, and community spirit.

Keen for the next one already 👀

"The children are our future" - It’s a well-loved cliché around the world because it’s absolutely true. The hopes and dreams we have for our communities are only as strong as the children and young people who continue to believe in them long after we’re gone.

This month is all about supporting our young people. It’s about empowering and encouraging them to not only be the community builders of tomorrow, but also the best versions of themselves. It’s listening to their perspective and remembering that it’s not just about what we can teach them, but also what lessons they can teach us.

After all, the recipe for creating healthy, happy children includes a lot of the same ingredients for building safer, more resilient, and connected communities.
Want to share your thoughts? Let us know how you’re supporting the young people in your communities this month by commenting below or tagging us in your posts!

Street party in UNSWORTH HEIGHTS!!

A street party started by our street coordinator wanting to get the neighbours together. After an on and off week with the rain, it was a beautiful afternoon for a pizza party! We shared resources about emergency preparedness, residents signed up to Neighbourhood Support and signed up to be a volunteer for the Meadowood emergency response group!

We had some great chats about looking out for one another and preparing the street for an emergency.

We couldn’t have done it without the support of Upper Harbour Local Board. Thank you to the local board for sponsoring the get together so that every household have a household plan, are connected with their neighbours, and recognise the resources and services that are available.
