What is Safer Plates? 🚗🔒

Safer Plates is a community crime-prevention initiative that uses anti-theft screws to make vehicle number plates harder to remove and steal — helping protect your vehicle and reduce plate theft in our community.

Come along this Saturday at Albany Westfield Mall to help protect your vehicle plates.

Tips & Advice:
🔥Go to checkitsalright.nz to see if you are able to light a fire in your area. You may need a permit.
🔥 Check the fire danger on the day at checkitsalright.nz
🔥 Chose a spot that is 20 metres from buildings, fences and hedges. 500 metres from forest or scrub land and at least 15 metres from other fires.
🔥 Use dry, untreated wood and no tyres, plastics or rubbish
🔥 If using a brazier make sure it is on stable, level non-flammable surface
🔥 The fire should be no taller than 2 metres and no wider than 3 metres
🔥 Keep something to help put out the fire close by. Such as a bucket of water, shovel, hose or fire extinguisher
🔥 Never leave your fire unattended
🔥Extinguish your fire with lots of water

🍕🌭 Street Party Season Has Wrapped Up!

A huge thank you to all the North Shore residents who have hosted or requested a Neighbourhood Support street party this season! It's been fantastic to see so many neighbours coming together and building stronger community connections.

As the weather becomes wetter and more unpredictable, we're no longer accepting new street party bookings for the winter months.

If you'd like to host a street party or neighbourhood gathering when the warmer weather returns, we'd love to hear from you!

We've heard from residents that there have been some recent car break-ins in the area. Please take a moment to check out the tips and advice below to help protect your vehicle.

Remember to lock your car, remove valuables from sight, and report any suspicious activity to the police. Let's all do our part to help keep our neighbourhoods safe.

Thank you to the wonderful residents of Bayview! You brought so much enthusiasm, positivity, and energy to our street gathering. Despite the chilly evening, your warmth and community spirit lit up the night and made it a fantastic event.

We were also grateful to have Auckland Emergency Management join us to chat with residents and share valuable information about household emergency plans and preparedness resources.

Another street connected, another neighbourhood strengthened! 🤩🏘️✨

We kicked off last weekend with a fantastic street party on Onewa Road — our first one on a main road! 🚗🎉

Despite the busy traffic, local residents came together to enjoy a sausage sizzle, delicious treats shared by neighbours, and plenty of great conversation. One of the highlights of the day was discovering that some colleagues who see each other at work every day had no idea they were actually neighbours!

It’s always amazing to see connections being built right here in our community. ❤️

Our Neighbourhood Support Waitematā District 🤍

What an enjoyable and inspiring catch up earlier this week with Neighbourhood Support Waitematā District Coordinators at NBR 12 in Greenhithe. ☕💙
Over a cuppa and some shared kai, we enjoyed a productive discussion about what's happening in our communities, sharing ideas, successes, challenges, and updates from around the district. There is a lot happening behind the scenes including the development of some fabulous resources. 😊
Our meeting was a great reminder of the important role Neighbourhood Support plays in building connected, resilient, and caring communities. 🏡🤝

Street Party in Birkdale! 🎉
A relaxed driveway BBQ before the rain rolled in ☁️🌦️. It was fantastic to see neighbours connecting across different ages, backgrounds, and walks of life.

Thank you to the Kaipatiki Local Board for their continuous support to North Shore Neighbourhood Support. We hope to activate more streets in the Kaipatiki community!

Message from Fire and Emergency NZ about electric blankets

A faulty electric blanket is a fire waiting to happen. If you feel unusually hot patches in your electric blanket, or if it is more than 5 years old, replace it now.

Check for hotspots in your blanket by turning it on high for 15 mins, then switching it off and running your hand over the blanket

You should also make sure:
- Blankets are rolled during storage, not folded
- Blankets are always turned off before going to sleep, cords and controls are not twisted, and the blanket lies flat on the bed
- Heavy objects are never placed on the bed while the electric blanket is in use.

REMEMBER: CHECK THE HEAT BEFORE YOU SLEEP
