Community Fruit Harvesting Picking & preserving excess fruit for the community Community Fruit Harvesting in Auckland was a registered charity until 15 July 2019.

We have de-registered as a charity, as we struggled to attract skilled and responsible volunteers to run the organisation under a centralised structure. So, we have resorted back to being a community group, operating in a decentralized structure and changing our status to a more sustainable model. We continue to be made up of 100% volunteers. We encourage and organise the sharing of excess or unwa

nted backyard and orchard fruit by endeavouring to pick and distribute through registered charities, food banks, some community groups and schools, with the intention of sharing primarily with those people that are struggling to make ends meet. The fruit is not always perfect and often organic. Some of the fruit, which is not suitable for distributing is turned into preserves, in the volunteers own kitchens. These are also distributed in the same way and to the same places. Our purpose is to share excess, to prevent waste, while at the same time helping others. We do not promise to distribute ‘perfect’ fruit, nor commercial grade preserves. We each do our best to make a positive difference in our communities.
