Biosecurity New Zealand is urging Aucklanders to be on the lookout for yellow-legged hornets (Vespa velutina) following the discovery of a queen hornet in the early stages of building a nest in the suburb of Glenfield.

The yellow-legged hornet is a biosecurity concern due to its potential impact on honeybee and wild bee populations.

For information on what to keep an eye out for, see our factsheet: https://bit.ly/3Lrep8E

Any potential sightings of the yellow-legged hornet or a nest should be photographed, and reported online at https://bit.ly/3LreqcI or by calling our exotic pest and disease hotline 0800 80 99 66.

Remembering Allan Hall – A life of service, advocacy and heart 💚

We’re remembering Allan Hall, a long-time supporter of CCS Disability Action whose life was filled with compassion, community and quiet leadership.

Allan’s connection to our organisation began in childhood and continued for much of his 83 years. He was a lawyer, coroner, disability advocate and Chair of our Tairāwhiti branch – always showing up, always asking: “Right O. What needs doing?”

He believed in disabled people having a seat at the table, and he led with aroha, humility and strength. As our General Manager Colene Herbert said at his funeral: “He showed us that an impairment is no barrier to contribution, and that service is a life well lived.”

We will miss Allan deeply, and we will carry his values forward in everything we do.

🌿 Moe mai rā, Allan. Thank you for everything.

You can read our full tribute at the link in our comments.

One our hard working volunteers, who loves doing lawn mowing and yard work so much, he mows berms for neighbours for free. Sadly, while mowing in his street, someone decided to uplift his favourite tool, a Stihl blower. If someone picked it up by mistake, it wasn't free. If they thought it was left there, perhaps they took it into their local New Zealand Police station. If they stole it, they need to do better.

We had a great day at this year's disability connect transitions expo. It was great to see all the options out there for disabled school leavers.

We wouldn't be able to pull off such a great Transition Expo without the help of our sponsors and volunteers.

A massive shout out to Mercury, our Community Innovation partner, for sending us a wonderful group of volunteers to help set up in the morning.

Thank you also to Clipboard our Imagination Partner for providing our Expo Bags and volunteering too.

And we simply couldn't do what we do without Rotary St Johns, Merkle, MPs Greg Fleming and Nancy Lu and their teams, Chorus, Beca, and family and friends who all provided volunteers to support us on the day.

Thank you so much!

If you supported us at Transition Expo, thank you for helping us make each year even better than the last.
