A special week to acknowledge all the mahi our volunteers do on and off the beach every year at Karekare Surf Lifesaving as we honour you all on National volunteers week!

New Zealand is renowned for operating on the back of volunteerism, we honour all those that give up their time whether it is for our club, or all the other wonderful organisations that people support in Aotearoa!

Congratulations to our 10 members who will be heading to the Awards of Excellence at Shed 10 in July to receive their service awards.

Well done to Chrissie Sidwell, Clint Bishop, Dave Wade, Gareth Abraham, Hannah Gordon, Ian Wade, Julie Mercer, Llewellyn Abraham, Mark Chaafe and Steve Hart.

All these members have spent years of dedication (some decades) and this award is well deserved. We are delighted that we will also be paying for their partners to accompany them as behind every great lifeguard is a partner and family that sacrifice family time!

Big day for karekare today. We are thrilled to announce 9 new lifeguards who passed their exam at Mairangi earlier today. Congrats to Emma, Finley, Aria, Quinn, Robbie, Aidan, Juno and evija. Special thanks to instructor Steve and all the other lifeguards who helped with their training. Also to our examiner team today - Joanne, Mary and Carwyn.
We look forward to seeing you between the flags next summer.

Also congrats to our local school lone kauri on their 50th jubilee today. We know lots of local clubbies have strong connections to the school and we shared the beach races fundraiser for many years. Looks like it was a great day of celebrations!

Congratulations to our four guards who just returned from YDC (Youth development Camp) after three nights at Motutapu.
Thank you to SLSNZ and NR for arranging this camp - especially Gabriella as we know it is a massive undertaking.
Well done to Hazel, Freida, Sabine and Sebastian for being selected and we hope you all achieved personal development from the challenges and made lots of friends for life in Surf.
Special thanks to all the instructors who give up their time to support our young guards.

That is officially a wrap of the 25-26 season at the Trusts Karekare Surf Lifesaving Club, the sun has set on our last patrol yesterday!

Special thanks to all our lifeguards and Patrol supports, PC's and their vices, office holders and committee for making it a great season. We have trained 15 new lifeguards, had 2 huge groups complete their crewpersons, still have a rock training module to come and two new instructors. We have also been training up new IRB drivers.
It has been a season of mixed blessings with a very successful rescue in January, but sadly also a loss for a family that we hold heavy in our hearts.
We finished up with our Easter patrols, thanks Patrol 1 and 5 who had fantastic BBQ dinners and a mexican theme on Friday night too.
Also our rookie camp was held over the weekend to brush up our candidates who are sitting their exam this Sunday. Thanks to Oscar, Kaia and Finn for organising this and also to camp leaders Mark, Chrissie and Julia for assisting.
So that is a wrap, see you back between the flags on Saturday 24 October 2026! In the meantime stay safe!

It was a proud moment on Thursday when Karekare Surf Lifesaving Club had our new IRB hull and engine blessed by the St Lazarus Board who sponsored the duo. The boat is fittingly named afer one of the club's greats Stu Hammond. The Hammond family still has two generations of lifeguards patrolling Karekare every summer. Special thanks to Neil for bringing in the vehicle and IRB, Andy and Bob for being part of the special day. Special thanks to St Lazarus Trust for championing of our club over the past decade and for hosting the lunch.
