On Saturday a couple of our younger Scouts and a couple of (ahem) older leaders took place in an on-water clean up on The Whau organised by New Lynn Sea Scouts and The Whau River Catchment Trust. Scouting friends from Owairaka Sea Scouts & Western Bays Sea Scouts, Lynfield were also there.

We had a great morning out on the water, and managed to find a shopping trolley, which our young Scouts were both happy to find and unhappy it was there in the first place.

Some of our Keas, Cubs and Scouts had a great time out at the NWOC Rogaine at Leighton's Farm. A beautiful day at a beautiful spot practicing our navigation skills. The next event is June 14 at Muriwai, maybe see you all there!

On Sunday a small group of Scouts & Vents took part in a Pest Plant control and rubbish clean up along the banks of Te Wai o Pareira / Henderson Creek at Tui Glen along with West West Rover Crew organised by Community Waitākere.

As well as gathering a disappointing amount of rubbish in a short time, we took out a reasonable amount of ginger, privet, woolly nightshade and other invasive plant species.

Well done to those who came along - hard work, but rewarding.

Some of our senior Kea led an epic 5 hour Adventurous Journey up the Pararaha Valley a few weeks ago. The kids had to plan their own food, gear, maps, timings and also organize their parents to come along too! Well done to Otis, Sienna, Mackenzie and Charlie, who well and truly ticked the box towards their Kowhai Kea Capstone awards!

We had an excellent turnout of well over 50 Kea, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and leaders attending the Te Atatu Peninsula ANZAC parade, including our very own Aiden Whyte on trumpet for The Last Post. Everybody was tidy, on time and respectful during the service. We feel proud to have played our part in such an important community event.

Our Te Atatu Endeavour Keas and Cubs had a wonderful time at our inaugural Keas Cubs Camp, held at Makarau Scouts Camp. We had river swimming, Burma trail, a campfire with some wonderful skits, damper and s'mores and some fun games.

A nice acknowledgement in the most recent RiverCare Group Te Wai o Pareira newsletter of the of the role of the 2 local Scout groups (us and Edmonton Scout Group) and the West West Rover Crew in running predator control traplines in Te Atatu Peninsula. Check it out if you haven't seen it already - Rivercare do great work for our community. You can also find out how to get involved personally.

One of Rivercare’s big focuses is predator control, we believe that removing predators is vital for boosting biodiversity around Te Wai o Pareira and for allowing vulnerable native species to recover. Take a look at our website's updated Predator Control Dashboard, now you can follow along with ou...
