Join us tomorrow for the wreath laying and march at 9.30am in front of Henderson RSA as we join our ANZAC'S for the parade as we pay respect to the fallen soldiers including 1600 Indian troops who died alongside ANZAC forces during the 1915 Gallipoli Campaign during WW1.

It is with deep sadness that the Waitakere Indian Association mourns the passing of Ami Chand, QSM, JP.

Ami was a founding member of the Waitakere Indian Association and played a vital role in shaping our community from its early days. His vision, dedication, and commitment helped lay the foundation for what WIA stands for today.

During WIA’s 25th Anniversary and Diwali celebrations last year, Ami was honoured with a Life Membership in recognition of his outstanding service and lifelong contribution to the Association and the wider community.

He was also widely respected in the wider West Auckland community, serving as a member of the Whau Local Board and contributing tirelessly to community development and public service. He also served as an elected member of the Portage Licensing Trust for more than 17 years and was the Chair of the Community Organisation Grants Scheme Committee, supporting countless community initiatives.

Ami was not only a leader but a kind, humble, and generous individual whose presence brought people together. His contributions and legacy will always be remembered with great respect and gratitude.

During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Ami’s family, friends, and loved ones. May you find strength, comfort, and peace in the memories you shared together.
