In partnership and strong collaboration, ADRA New Zealand improves the wellbeing of people and communities through health, education, and livelihood opportunities both here in New Zealand and overseas. We also assist people affected by disasters. As the humanitarian agency of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jesus’ example of justice, compassion and love motivates us. Justice, so that all people may experience life to the full. Compassion, so that together, we can break the cycle of poverty for the most vulnerable. Love, so that as Christians we live out our faith to make the world a better place.

Along the Rewa River, elders read the land, the rivers and the seasons in ways no satellite can. 🌊🌱

Through SHAPE-CAR, ADRA Fiji is bringing that generational wisdom together with modern climate science, so communities can face rising floods on their own terms.

121 households now have irrigation kits. 200 mangroves are in the ground. And there's a renewed push to pass traditional knowledge on to the next generation.

🌋 EMERGENCY UPDATE: Responding to the Ambae Volcano Eruption

Volcanic ash from recent eruptions on Ambae, Vanuatu, has contaminated rainwater tanks and other key water sources, leaving families without safe water.

💧 An estimated 11,159 people now have limited access to fresh water for drinking, washing and basic hygiene. That creates a serious public health risk, especially for schools, health facilities, evacuation centres and the most vulnerable.

With funding from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT NZ), ADRA is responding now:

✅ 561 hygiene and WASH kits are being released to households across 69 villages in West Ambae, reaching around 2,692 people
✅ Working alongside Vanuatu's National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), which is providing 20 water tanks across West Ambae
✅ Jerrycans and buckets in each kit mean families can collect and store safe water from these tanks for everyday use

This $402,000 NZD response means families can stay clean, stay healthy, and prevent disease while they recover.

💧This is what your support looks like!

Thanks to ADRA supporters and New Zealand's aid programme, 1,456 people in Tasiriki, Ipayato and Butmus on Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu now have safe, reliable water close to home.

These three communities have officially received new and upgraded water systems. The work included water tanks, kilometres of new piping, rainwater harvesting for backup storage, and a hydraulic ram pump that brings water up to Butmus.

It's part of the SHAPE project, which has worked alongside 11 communities in Sanma Province over the past five years on clean water, health, farming, gender equality, climate resilience and livelihoods.

This work is funded by the New Zealand Government through MFAT NZ and also supported by -day Saints Charities (LDSC). It's a great example of how New Zealand is helping our Pacific neighbours build stronger, healthier communities.

To everyone who gives to ADRA - Thank you, this is your generosity at work!

And congratulations to the community leaders, Water Committees and families who worked hard alongside ADRA Vanuatu to make it happen. The local water committees and plumbers will now look after these systems for years to come. 🙌

From depression to business owner in 12 months read more about Akavi's story. Youth unemployment in New Zealand has hit its highest level in 30+ years.

ADRA believes in building livelihoods both overseas and here at home in Aotearoa. The House of Hustlers project is proving that with mentorship, resources, and belief, young people can be set up to thrive.
