“Be prepared, not planned.” 💬

Golf New Zealand National Coach shares insight into how our Academy members Cooper Moore & Yuki Miya 宮祐樹 are preparing ahead of The Amateur Championship.

Qualifying for the final match play round is no small task, 36 holes across two iconic courses, with 18 holes at West Lancashire and 18 holes at Royal Liverpool. From there, the top 64 progress to match play, all hosted at Royal Liverpool.

Big week ahead for our Academy players. ⛳️

Golf New Zealand exists to champion the game at every level - from grassroots participation through to our elite pathways - and that work depends on the courses across the country.

These are not simply venues for a round of golf, they are green spaces that bring communities together, support physical and mental wellbeing and welcome people of all ages and abilities into a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

We are aware of the petition now before Parliament concerning Pegasus Golf Club, following its recent purchase and the stated intention to redevelop the site into housing. Reports indicate the redevelopment is likely to be pursued through a fast-track application - a process that could see a well-established course lost and with it a vital community asset, with consequences felt well beyond Canterbury.

Decisions of this kind carry weight for the entire golfing community. A course that takes decades to mature and embed itself in a community can be lost in a fraction of that time and seldom does anything comparable take its place. For that reason, Golf New Zealand believes our existing facilities deserve genuine protection, so that those that play today and those that pick up the game of golf tomorrow have a place to do so.

We encourage golfers and the wider community to look at the proposal and consider lending their name in support.

Follow the link below to find out more and lend your signature in support of preserving Pegasus Golf Club and everything it contributes to golf in Canterbury and across Aotearoa.
