Neuroendocrine Cancer New Zealand

Neuroendocrine Cancer New Zealand We are a registered NZ charity established to support kiwis affected by neuroendocrine (NET) cancer.

Formally Unicorn Foundation NZ, we are a registered charity, (CC49802) acting in the public interest to help educate and support New Zealand sufferers of neuroendocrine tumours/carcinomas (NETs) and their families. We also aim to increase awareness and knowledge of the disease amongst the medical community. We also hope to improve access to treatment and diagnostic tests for NZ patients and where

possible, we would like to provide funds to researchers and institutions who will work towards a cure for this uncommon group of cancers. By working closely with medical groups we hope to raise the profile of neuroendocrine tumours and foster greater knowledge and involvement of primary health care practitioners and help ensure best practice care for patients with these tumours.

⭐️ Shoutout to Linda Reynolds! ⭐️

2022 was a year Linda Reynolds won’t forget. After experiencing years of symptoms, including extreme weight loss, chronic diarrhoea, and pain, Linda was diagnosed with a rare neuroendocrine cancer — Zollinger Ellison syndrome — and underwent surgery to remove a gastrinoma from her pancreas. Thankfully, she didn’t require any follow-up treatment.

Linda’s journey has inspired her to give back. Recently, she completed the Dunedin Half-Marathon walk and has raised $1,000 for Neuroendocrine Cancer NZ 👏

Linda credits NECNZ for providing vital support throughout her journey — from clear, accessible information to webinars, Zoom coffee chats, and expert advice. She says the support is invaluable, not just for her, but for patients navigating more complex experiences with NETs.

💛 Thank you, Linda, for your incredible effort and generosity. Your fundraising will help us continue supporting patients and families across Aotearoa.

WE NEED YOUR VOICE!

In 2019, the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance (INCA) conducted an online self-reported survey among 2359 NET patients and 436 healthcare professionals (HCPs) from 68 countries across 6 continents, in 14 languages. This was the largest survey and compendium of data on NET diagnostics and care worldwide.

In 2025, INCA is launching the SCAN 2025 Global Survey to compare the results on the same key measurements from 2019 and map the status of NET diagnostics, treatments and care from the point of view of patients and healthcare professionals.

There are two separate questionnaires designed for NET patients/caregivers and for healthcare professionals.

✨ We’re proud to share that our very own Michelle Sullivan represented Neuroendocrine Cancer NZ at the 13th INCA Global NET Patient Advocate Summit in Bulgaria.

This annual gathering brings together advocates from around the world to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and amplify the voices of people living with NETs. Michelle joined international colleagues to explore new ways of improving awareness, access to treatment, and support for our community here in New Zealand.

🌍 It’s inspiring to see our local advocacy connected to the global movement — working together to ensure that no NET patient feels alone, no matter where they live.

Ngā mihi nui Michelle, for carrying the NECNZ voice to the global stage 💛

Congratulations Linda Reynolds! For weeks you've been training and preparing for this half marathon. We are all so impressed by your dedication and support — we’re so grateful to have you representing our cause and raising awareness and funds for NECNZ.

You are amazing! 👏💜

It was a great event, the sun shone, it stayed dry. There was just a pesky head wind as we came back up the Otago Peninsula. So pleased with a respectable 3 hours 12 mins 🥰
