While response efforts continued following the BhoteKoshi Rasuwa flood, WFP and partners in western Nepal proactively prepared for potential late-monsoon flooding.

Across six flood-prone municipalities of Kailali, Bardiya and Banke districts, early warning messages were shared through multiple channels, and readiness measures were completed for 9,762 vulnerable households.

Fortunately, the trigger was never reached, but communities were prepared and systems were ready.

📍 Nuwakot

WFP Country Director, Riaz Lodhi with UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Lila Pieters, visited Nuwakot to see firsthand the impact of the recent floods, and the coordinated response reaching communities cut off by damaged roads and difficult terrain.

The team witnessed helicopter ready to carry food assistance to people who remain otherwise inaccessible.

This is a powerful reminder of what the United Nations Nepal is about: stand together, act together, and deliver together, especially when people need us most.

No community should be left behind simply because it is hard to reach.

Local authorities estimate that 80 percent of businesses in Nuwakot were lost to the floods.

In Rasuwa, roads remain inaccessible as World Food Programme Nepal helicopters are transport food to isolated communities.

In Nuwakot, the focus is increasingly on recovery.

As the Government prepares its post-disaster assessment, UN Resident Coordinator Lila Pieters Yahia went back to Nuwakot to see what comes next: sustaining relief where it is still needed, while helping communities recover, rebuild and restore their livelihoods.

Together, United Nations Nepal's Lila Pieters Yahia & World Food Programme Nepal's Riaz Lodhi visited Bidur, Nuwakot, one of the flood affected communities.

They met with local authorities, business people and partner agencies, advocating for a coordinated shift from emergency relief to long-term recovery.

Thanks to support from donors including Swiss Development & Cooperation, World Food Programme 🇳🇵is shifting flood response to cash-based transfers for up to 38,000 affected people.

Recipients include those who have lost their homes, businesses or productive agricultural land in the floods.
