Today from COP29:
Half of the human population depends on ecosystem services provided by mountains and mountain communities in countries like Nepal, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan are among the most vulnerable to climate impacts
In Baku, Azerbaijan, Betina Gollander-Jensen, Secretary General of Mission East and Ujjwal Amatya, Country Director of Nepal were honoured to meet informally with Dr
Maheshwar Dhakal. Dr Dhakal is a board member of the Loss and Damage Fund and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Forestry in Nepal.
Together we discussed the mountain people who are among the most vulnerable to the climate crisis. Dr Dhakal commended Mission East for our commitment to working in the most remote communities to create climate change adaptation interventions.
Mountain-specific adaptation funds must strengthen resilience infrastructure, support early warning systems, and fund research on local climate impacts.
More to come from COP29!
