Disaster Preparedness Network Nepal - DPNet Nepal Disaster Preparedness Network- Nepal (DPNet-Nepal) is concerned with strong coordination on disaster

Established in 1996, the Disaster Preparedness Network (DP-Net) is envisioned as a loose association of individual organisations within the development sector in Nepal, which are concerned with disaster management. The network aims to assist individuals and organisations to prepare for, and respond to and manage disaster should it strike. DP-Net works closely with Government of Nepal through its a

gencies, which are concerned with disaster preparedness and management. DP-Net complements the effort of these agencies to inform and prepare organisations and communities to deal effectively with disasters. DP-Net are concerned with natural disasters such as earthquake, floods, droughts and landslide. It will also cover disasters such as epidemic, flood and fire that occur often in towns and villages. DP-Net aims to assist and work closely with the Government institutions but as facilitator to Disaster Preparedness activities in Nepal. Thus, DP-Net allows and encourages promoting effective coordination and communication as well developing knowledge management with its all stakeholders in Nepal.

Disasters in Nepal claim hundreds of lives and cause billions in losses every year. To address this, Disaster Preparedness Network Nepal - DPNet Nepal has urged political parties to prioritize ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฌ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐‘๐ข๐ฌ๐ค ๐‘๐ž๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง (๐ƒ๐‘๐‘) ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ž-๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ in their election manifestos.

As part of this initiative, DPNet submitted a ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’-๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐š๐ฅ to major political parties, including CPN (UML), Nepali Congress, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Ujyalo Nepal Party, and other. The proposal emphasized on Mainstreaming DRR, Risk-sensitive infrastructure development, Community-based preparedness and local search & rescue teams, Cross-border disaster coordination, Adequate budgets, insurance schemes, and subsidies for resilient housing.

Nepal actively participated in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), showcasing its commitment to disaster risk management. Led by the Executive Chief of the NDRRMA, a diverse delegation from Nepal, including government, academia, and civil society, highlighted the countryโ€™s vulnerability to disasters exacerbated by climate change. Nepal emphasized the need for international cooperation, access to climate financing, and technological support to enhance its DRR efforts. Key initiatives like the Bipad Portal and accessible DRR materials, including braille, were featured. Nepal also stressed strengthening community resilience and sharing best practices in DRR across the region.
