Last week was an exciting week for child clubs and youth clubs in Bara District.

At Nepal Rastriya Secondary School, UMN supported child club members in leading a WASH Campaign by cleaning the school premises and improving WASH facilities. They even organised a community cleaning programme.

UMN, in partnership with Protection Nepal, organised a 3-day life skills training for 30 young people and adolescents from five youth clubs. Through sessions on reproductive health, leadership, confidence-building, and community mobilisation, participants gained skills to become active leaders in their communities.

๐Ÿ“Mental Health Camp, Bajhang, organised with Dalit Help Society, reached 116 new individuals and supported 78 follow-up cases, providing essential psychosocial support to those in need. Furthermore, 10 health workers also received on-site coaching.

๐Ÿ“Kinder Camp in Bara, in coordination with Protection Nepal, brought together 87 children and parents for engaging activities and informative sessions about good and bad touch, cyber-crime and child rights issues.

These initiatives continue to build safer, protected and more informed communities.

This past week, UMN teamed up with youth and child clubs, teachers, parents' groups, and partner organisations to run school enrolment campaigns across wards in Kapilvastu, Saptari and Bara Districts.

From lively rallies and home visits to educational sessions and meetings with parents, everyone came together with one shared goal: to make sure that every school-aged child gets a chance to go to school.

A total of 25 schools in Kapilvastu, six schools in Saptari and 23 parents in Bara participated in the campaign.

Maya started by carrying bricks and gravel at United Mission Hospital Tansen, working as a daily wage labourer. Years later, she is still there, but life looks different now. She has a steady job at the hospital, a home of her own, and her children in school.

Thatโ€™s how teachers described a five-day Activity-Based Learning training held from 18 to 22 April 2026 in Saptari.

The training was conducted in collaboration with UMNโ€™s partner organisation, Sabal Nepal, and the Municipalityโ€™s Education, Youth and Sports Development Section. A total of 17 teachers from six schools learned about enhancing teaching practices and child-centred methodologies, which was a completely new approach for many.

Today, we gathered to mark the end of a longstanding partnership between UMN and Felm Nepal. The two organisations share a special and warm partnership, which began in 1977.

At the gathering, Dhana Lama, UMNโ€™s Executive Director shared, โ€œI always remember Felm with a grateful heart every time I meet a Dalit girl who has been to school or a child studying in his/her mother language in Mugu. All these and many more meaningful scholarship programmes and education projects were possible because of Felmโ€™s support and long-term commitment and trust.โ€

Dr Lotta Gammelin, Country Director of Felm Nepal and her team were also present at the farewell programme today. Dr Gammelin shared how UMN has truly been the changemakers in remote regions working diligently with the grassroots level.

While this chapter comes to a close, the memories, friendships, and impact we have created together will continue.

This past week, over 40 women gathered in Bara on World Health Day 2026 to talk about the health of people, animals and the environment. They discussed challenges such as early marriage and the misuse of antibiotics and pesticides, and committed to safer, healthier practices for their families and communities.
