We gathered tonight not just to remember, but to demand action.

On the 16th International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Advocacy Forum-Nepal joined the Conflict Victims' Community and Civil Society to light candles for those whose fates remain concealed by the state.

A disappearance is an ongoing crime until the truth is revealed. We stand united with the families to demand an independent commission, dignified reparations, and the immediate ratification of the International Convention on Disappearances. The wait must end.

An enforced disappearance does not end on the day a person is taken. It is a continuous crime that repeats every single day the state refuses to provide answers.

For thousands of families across Nepal, the trauma is compounded by an agonizing legal limbo, enduring the psychological toll of ambiguous loss while fighting a system that delays justice through flawed transitional mechanisms.

At Advocacy Forum-Nepal, we believe the first step toward accountability is understanding the true depth of the violation. Because this is a continuous, gross human rights violation, there can be no amnesty, mediation, or pardons for the perpetrators.
