"18 months of torture in detention, a shattered family, and the loss of two sons."

This is the harrowing reality of Purna Prasad Paudel, a transport businessman from Surkhet, whose life was irreparably damaged during the 10-year armed conflict.

Despite securing court rulings and commission recommendations in his favor, the state has continuously failed to implement them. Today, he is still running to the courts, physically and mentally scarred, waiting for the state to be held accountable.

Purna Prasad's story is a glaring example of the systemic failure of Nepal's transitional justice process. Survivors of torture and conflict victims have waited far too long. Advocacy Forum - Nepal stands in unwavering solidarity with victims like Purna Prasad. We urgently call upon the Government of Nepal to immediately implement court orders and provide meaningful truth, justice, and reparations.

Justice delayed is justice denied. We must not let their suffering be forgotten.

Following the tragic police shooting in Sunsari, Kaptangunj that claimed the life of 24-year-old Om Prakash Mehta and left many people injured, the government has announced a 5-member investigation committee, alongside an independent probe by the NHRC.

An investigation is only meaningful if it is genuinely prompt, fair and transparent. The state must answer for the disproportionate use of live ammunition and excessive use of force for crowd control.

But right now, the most urgent need on the ground is peace and social harmony. 🕊️

With curfews imposed and tensions boiling over into further clashes, we are pleading with the communities and concerned stakeholders to stop the violence. Retaliation will only lead to more tragedy.

We call on community leaders and concerned stakeholders to step up, bridge the divide, and restore social harmony, brotherhood, and peace while we collectively push for a fair investigation.

The state is responsible for maintaining law and order.

Today at Maitighar Mandala, victims of Nepal’s decade-long armed conflict are taking a stand. Organized by the आम द्वन्द्व पीडित समुदाय, this sit-in protest demands what should have been guaranteed from the start: fair, just, and meaningful participation in the transitional justice process.

For too long, decisions about truth, reconciliation, and accountability have been made behind closed doors. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) cannot deliver genuine relief unless the transitional justice laws are amended to align with Supreme Court rulings, and unless the victims themselves have a seat at the table.

At Advocacy Forum-Nepal, we stand in full solidarity with the आम द्वन्द्व पीडित समुदाय, the survivors, and the families of the disappeared. True peace requires true justice, and true justice requires listening to those who suffered the most.

On 9th July, an interaction program brought together key officials to strengthen coordination among justice actors, address the challenges in Nepal's child justice administration, and identify practical measures for the protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration of children in conflict with the law.

The program was chaired by Mr. Bhojraj Acharya, General Secretary of Advocacy Forum Nepal. Mr. Bhadrakali Pokharel, Registrar of the Supreme Court, attended as the Chief Guest, while Hon. Krishna Prasad Nepal, Judge of the Child Court, Bhaktapur, served as the Special Guest.

Merely recognizing children's rights in legislation is not sufficient. Those rights must be supported by effective implementation, child-friendly institutions, and laws and policies that are consistently guided by the best interests of the child.

On July 20, 2026, the Supreme Court (Hon. Justice Shanti Singh Thapa) issued a 15-day show-cause notice to the government, TRC, and CIEDP. The writ (082-WO-1696), filed by Adv. Kumar Prasad Thapaliya for 81-year-old torture victim Purna Prasad Paudel, demands equal treatment for victims of the 10-year armed conflict and the Gen-Z movement. An interim order hearing is set for July 31.

📌 Key Demands:

☛Equal Relief: Matching living allowances, loans, jobs, and free healthcare provided to Gen-Z victims.

☛Unified Reparation Policy: A non-discriminatory policy based on international best practices (e.g., South Africa and Argentina).

☛Healthcare & Transparency: Dedicated hospital help desks and a transparent, web-based victim record.

☛Strict Timeline: A time-bound conclusion for TRC & CIEDP processes to end the state’s delay tactics.

Arguments for the petitioners were presented by Sr. Adv. Bhojraj Acharya and Advocates Rajiv Bastola, Trilok Bahadur Chand, Prakash Singh Bista, Pushparaj Paudel, Kumar Prasad Thapaliya, Salochana Dhital, Ishwari Prasad Sapkota, Kirtinath Sharma Paudel, Chiranjivi Nepal, and Gyanendra Raj Aran.

On 27 Ashadh 2083, human rights defenders and Gen Z activists Majid Ansari, Sarishma Thapa, and Nahendra Khadka were unjustly arrested in Kirtipur while monitoring the conditions of citizens facing eviction. Shockingly, police severely assaulted Majid Ansari during the arrest, causing serious injuries to his head and face.

As a petitioner in the Supreme Court case against these very evictions, this violent crackdown on Majid appears deeply targeted and retaliatory. Fear-mongering and excessive force against rights workers have absolutely no place in a democratic society.

We firmly demand:

🔍 An Immediate, Independent Investigation into the police use of excessive force.

🏥 Full Reparations & Medical Care for the injured victims.

⚖️ Strict Accountability to punish the guilty officers and ensure such state-backed violence never happens again.
