Saturday morning saw our inshore lifeboat “Albert Pinel” take part in a winching exercise with French rescue helicopter, Dragon 50.

You may have spotted the helicopter and lifeboats operating in St Aubin’s Bay during the blustery and wet conditions, but that certainly didn’t deter the crews involved.

The exercise, organised by Jersey Coastguard, gave our crew the opportunity to train alongside both local and international search and rescue partners.

Training like this is absolutely vital, helping to ensure our crews are prepared to deal with whatever they may face whilst on service.

We would like to thank the crew of Dragon 50 for their time and experience, and Jersey Coastguard for arranging a valuable and well coordinated training opportunity.

Always good to get some practice in…We’re looking forward to some testing conditions today.

From 10am this Saturday, St Aubin’s Bay and Grouville Bay will host a major joint exercise featuring the Sécurité civile Dragon 50 helicopter alongside The Jersey Lifeboat Association, RNLI Jersey St Helier and St Catherines, and the Jersey Fire & Rescue Service.

Saturday evening saw the crew of JLA’s Inshore Lifeboat, Albert Pinel, tasked to assist a 20ft motor vessel that had lost its rudder and was unable to make headway against the tide.

Albert Pinel launched promptly and rendezvoused with the casualty vessel to the south east of Demi de Pas Lighthouse.

Two crew members were transferred onto the vessel to assist with securing the rudder, managing water ingress and preparing the vessel for tow. The casualty vessel was then safely towed back to St Helier.

Albert Pinel and the casualty vessel were safely alongside at approximately 1800.

JLA would like to praise the skipper for carrying the correct safety equipment, wearing lifejackets and making effective use of VHF communications.

If you find yourself in difficulty at sea, dial 999 and ask for the Jersey Coastguard.
