Dr Atul Garg, associate professor, Microbiology Laboratory, briefed WHO Representative to India Dr Yvan J.-F. Hutin on the use of RB cell lines in cell culture for poliovirus detection at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences Lucknow. WHO’s National Public Health Support Network supports sample testing at the laboratory as part of India’s continuing surveillance to remain polio-free.

Hutin about Sanchari Rog Niyantran Abhiyan–Dastak, a state initiative to prevent and control communicable diseases by going door-to-door to bring health services to people’s doorsteps. WHO’s National Public Health Support Network provides planning, monitoring and feedback at the sub-district, district and state levels, enabling near real-time course correction.
