Indian Development Foundation is a leading national NGO committed to Health, Education and Development. Formerly known as Indian Leprosy Foundation, we started our national work in leprosy eradication programme during 1984. Massive nation-wide health awareness programme for over two decades has helped in reaching the goal of leprosy elimination. We have rechristened ourselves as Indian Development

Foundation (IDF) and diversified our roles with enlarged objectives for a nation-building programme. IDF is a self-reliant NGO in India. IDF has over 100 Associate Projects scattered all over India providing services to the citizens without any discrimination. Apart from leprosy programmes, IDF also extends its services to health, education and development, since we believe that these two sectors contribute greatly towards enhancing the nation and the economy. IDF sponsors education for the underprivileged. We have 190+ Bal Gurukuls/ Empowerment programmes (Dec 2015) spread across India catering education to more than 10000 students under its wings. Our goal is to establish 500 Bal Gurukuls by 2020. IDF has launched Student Leadership Programme a national movement to engineer knowledge bank to create leaders for a better tomorrow. IDF has set up a Centre of Excellence to provide soft skill training and enhance the employability factor.

Interns from Swami Vivekanand Business School undertook a meaningful project focused on menstrual awareness among adolescent boys. As part of this initiative, they stepped beyond the classroom and engaged directly with communities in the urban slums of Mumbai. Through interactive sessions, they worked to break stigma, foster understanding, and promote respectful conversations around menstrual health. Their efforts reflect a progressive approach to inclusive awareness, ensuring that boys are equally informed and sensitized on this important subject.

Today Indian Development Foundation (IDF) remembers Mrs Shyama Pillai more than ever, with deep gratitude for her invaluable contributions at every level.
The Foundation stands strong today because of her vision, unwavering support, and steadfast belief in its mission. As a past Co-founder and Trustee, she was the strength and backbone of the organisation, shaping its journey with quiet resilience and purpose.
Her values and legacy continue to live on through her son Mr Girish R President of IDF who carries forward her principles with the same sincerity and commitment she embodied.
It is often said that a person is remembered by how they made others feel. Shyama Madam was kindness personified, intelligent, compassionate, and deeply nurturing. Her expression of love was simple yet profound: she cooked and fed everyone who came her way. No one ever left her home without a meal, whether housekeeping staff, office staff, guests, or trustees. She treated everyone with equal warmth and dignity.
Her absence is deeply felt by all who knew her. In her memory, Indian Development Foundation will continue to stand tall, guided by the values she lived by and the legacy she so gracefully built.
