MakingConnections

MakingConnections Connecting the generations to tackle stereotyping, isolation and loneliness Strong, happy, stimulating friendships have been cultivated as a result.

We at Making Connections are inspired by a simple but powerful idea: that people living within a community have a natural gift for friendship and a desire to help those around them. In order to promote this culture of connection, we arrange for volunteers to visit and get to know older member of the community who live independently. We would like to invite you to be a part of this. Experience

has taught us that something as simple as a regular visitor can greatly improve a person's quality of life and help them maintain their independence. While we go to great lengths to facilitate this, we believe that the true fulfilment of our idea exists in people all over the country seizing the initiative and creating a culture of connection within their own communities. There is a magic here that we cannot pin down. Nor can we predict the full range of experiences you will gain by taking part, because the possibilities are limitless. All we can do is help you make the connection.

For , we are delighted to highlight the 67 amazing women who have joined Team Making Connections for the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon.

They are running to raise awareness about loneliness and isolation among older people — and we couldn’t be prouder.

They’re giving their time to train.
They’re giving their voices to our mission.
And they’re gaining community, strength, and purpose along the way.

This is what looks like in action.
Cheer them on with us: https://www.idonate.ie/team/vhiwomenmarathonMakingConnections

Today, on we celebrate the extraordinary women who give their time, compassion, and presence as our frontline volunteers.

Every visit, every phone call, every listening ear makes a profound difference in the lives of older people experiencing loneliness and isolation. Their generosity doesn’t just support our charity’s mission — it transforms lives.

Through their kindness, older people gain companionship, dignity, and renewed joy.
To every woman volunteer who makes our work possible — thank you.

You are the heart of Making Connections.
