York Rescue Boat Independent Lifeboat & Search and Rescue Team based in York, North Yorkshire We are all volunteers and are funded by the generosity of the public.

York Rescue Boat is a young charity operating an independent lifeboat and flood rescue team in our historic city and further afield. Our highly trained volunteers patrol York at high risk times, through till the early hours, on foot and by boat helping to make the city safer. We also have a nationally declared flood rescue team which can be called upon 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in times of severe flooding. **Thank you** - A big thanks to our friends at Acaster Marine for helping keep us operational.

Last night at 2100 whilst on patrol our main lifeboat suffered a mechanical issue with its gearbox. Our volunteers launched one of our flood rescue boats to take over its duties, which we then used at 0100 this morning on callout 54 of this year, searching for a high risk missing person in the city centre.

At 0900 this morning we spoke to our friends at and by 1030 they'd diagnosed and repaired the issue and our main lifeboat was back in action. We can't thank them enough for helping us so quickly.

We'll be back on the water this evening for our routine patrols, with our foot patrols walking the banks engaging with people, give us a wave if you see us. Enjoy your weekend.

York Rescue Boat is recruiting for Operational Crew!

York Rescue Boat Operational Volunteers work shifts on Friday and Saturday evenings, plus during major events, in York City Centre. The team patrols the river banks on foot and the river by boat. We also operate an ‘on call’ emergency response 24/7.

We help to prevent people entering the water, we support those in emotional distress, and we are ready to rescue people who enter the water.

We are also first responders to many first aid incidents on or near the river banks, therefore first aid training is an essential part of the training you will receive in order to feel confident to attend to your casualty until the ambulance arrives.

If you feel that you could be part of this essential charity, helping to educate people about water safety and drowning prevention, preventing people from entering the water and ultimately rescuing people if they do, then please so express your interest via our website.

You'll need to be able to commit to 2 shifts a month. Be available on call for some of the time, and support with fundraising events.

One of the recruitment team will be in touch for an initial chat. You can join one of our shifts as an observer to see if this is for you.

Applications close on 27th September, so don't delay.

Interviews will take place in October and training for successful applicants will start in January 2027 and last approximately 6 months.
