Tibet Support Group York

Tibet Support Group York In 1959, His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual leader, made the agonising decision to flee to exile in India to seek justice for Tibetan people.

Tibet Support Group York (TSGY) aims to raise awareness of the plight of Tibet and the Tibetan People by: fundraising, facilitating, informing and raising awareness about the human rights breach taking place within Tibet.

Since then many thousands more have followed him into exile. Tibetan people still live in fear of political and religious persecution and imprisonment within their own

country. Despite this situation in 2008, the Olympic Games were held in Beijing, regardless of China's ongoing abuse of human rights in Tibet. The same year, The Dalai Lama visited the United Kingdom to spread his message of peace and compassion and heighten awareness of the plight of the Tibetan people. In response to both of these events, in May 2008, a group of people in York decided to set up: Tibet Support Group York

With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of Gyalo Dhondup, the elder brother of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who left us at the age of 97 around 5:45pm

His life was devoted to the Tibetan cause, and his passing is an immense loss for all of us. We offer our prayers for his swift rebirth as a Tibetan.
