York Carers Centre We’re here for anyone in York who helps care for someone close because of illness, disability or addi

We provide support, advice, groups, an Emergency Card Scheme, Carers Assessments of Need and a discount scheme. Specialist services for young carers (5 to 18), young adult carers (18 to 25), and carers needing help with employment, education and training. This year’s theme, “Safeguarding Is Everyone’s Business,” highlights the importance of working together to create safe, supportive environments for everyone.

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. By collaborating, staying informed, and looking out for one another, we can help protect and support those who may be vulnerable.

During Carers Week 2026, we joined carers, volunteers, partners and local residents to celebrate this year’s theme: “Building Carer Friendly Communities.”

From information and fundraising stalls across York to group discussions and a creative Art of Protest workshop for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers, the week highlighted the importance of recognising, valuing and supporting unpaid carers.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, baked, donated, hosted events, and helped raise awareness. Together, we’re building a community where carers feel seen, heard and supported.

We had great success at our stall at Huntington House yesterday!

A massive thank you to Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust colleagues for their donations towards the treat bags and the wonderful baking, teas and coffees. Throughout the day, they offered a passionate listening ear to carers that attended our stall.

Run in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness York Group, this friendly and supportive space is open to anyone caring for someone with mental ill health. This month’s theme is ‘Community’, celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week.

New members are always welcome and there’s no need to book - just drop in.
