This week, we gathered at York Minster for a special service of thanksgiving, celebrating the Mustard Seed ‘Stepping Up’ programme and Community Ministers from across the diocese.

Over the past six years, Mustard Seed has supported more than 130 people from over 40 churches to grow in faith, nurture their gifts, and serve their communities in places where life is tough.

At the service, led by Bishop Eleanor Sanderson, we also celebrated Heather Black's licensing as a Lay Worker in her new diocesan role as Growing Churches of Missional Disciples Lead.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who has been part of Mustard Seed's journey so far. We look forward to seeing what grows next! 🌱

To mark , you are invited to a special Service of the Word at Hull Minster on Sunday 25 October, 2.30pm–4pm.

The service will reflect this year's theme: Honouring our Communities, recognising the people and communities whose service, leadership, creativity, and commitment continue to shape life across Britain.

It will be a welcoming occasion for people of every background, including regular churchgoers, members of other faith communities, and those who do not normally attend church.

There will also be an opportunity to make a personal commitment to the continuing work of racial justice.

This Friday, the Lord’s Prayer Tour comes to Middlesbrough.

Join the Archbishop of York and Faith in the North at St Martin's Middlesbrough for an evening of prayer, music, reflection, and conversation about the prayer Jesus taught us.

The evening will include a keynote from Archbishop Stephen and reflections from local people on what the Lord’s Prayer means in their lives.

Our Advent and Christmas resource hub brings together ideas for worship, prayer, reflection, children and young people, and personal discipleship.

For 2026, A–Z of Advent: A Musical Journey offers a different way to travel through the season. Each of its 24 days brings together an Advent word, person, or image with a piece of music, a short reflection, a listening prompt, and a prayer. Use it at home, share it with your church community, or explore it together in a small group.

📅 Save the dates for One Faith, One Baptism ✝️

Join Archbishop Stephen and our bishops for a series of Lent lectures exploring what it means to celebrate, commend, and share our baptismal faith.

One Faith, One Baptism will take place across five Wednesday evenings in Lent 2027, beginning on Wednesday 17 February.

The lectures will be held in venues across the diocese and livestreamed, so you can take part in person or online.

This Sunday is Disability Awareness Sunday, and this year’s theme is “One Body, Many Parts.”

Based on 1 Corinthians 12, it reminds us that disabled and neurodivergent people are essential members of the Body of Christ, with their own gifts, vocations, and ministries.

Through the Roof offers free resources, including videos, prayers, Bible material, and ideas for worship and activities. And, of course, churches can recognise the lived experience and contribution of disabled people at any time of the year - not just this Sunday!

We're also using the occasion to think carefully about how we speak about healing. The Revd Tim Goode, Canon for Congregational Discipleship and Nurture at York Minster, in partnership with York St John, has developed a Covenant for Christian Healing, which we invite parishes to read and explore (find out more on our news pages).
