Our Interim Chief Executive, Melanie Minty, has taken part in Care Rights UK’s panel event, Improving Care, Protecting Rights, on 21st October.
Bringing together voices from across the UK, the discussion explored how we can improve care, protect people’s rights and ensure that everyone receiving care is treated with dignity, respect and compassion.
Speaking from the perspective of independent health and social care providers in Wales, Melanie highlighted the discrimination experienced by people living in care homes during Covid, the importance of upholding people’s rights and wellbeing, and the need for care workers to be valued as highly as their colleagues in the NHS.
The discussion also reinforced the importance of better funding, greater parity between health and social care, and recognising the vital role of family and friends in supporting people who draw on care.
