This week is National Cadets Week, a chance to celebrate every cadet and instructor that helps build and maintain the organisations that help young people everyday.

At Wetherby we're lucky to have our own squadron that has served cadets for 40 years.

So, old cadets and new, parents, volunteers and supporters, let's have some likes and share what the squadron means to you.

After a very short summer break we're back on it. We've had an amazing open night recruiting a record number of new cadets, we've had a simulated exercise to set up a humanitarian mission for people fleeing Manchester and started training, studying, making new friends. As if that's not enough our brilliant civ com have seen new members join at the AGM.

Last Thursday, 20th August, three members of 35 Squadron's staff and CivCom attended the National Air and Space Camp (NASC) Industry Day.

Hundreds of organisations came together to put on an incredible day for young people aged 12–17. Every stall offered a bit of cheeky merch alongside a wealth of information on the apprenticeships, careers, scholarships, courses, and support they provide.

Staff came away with plenty of ideas about tools the Squadron could invest in to help teach airmanship, STEM, leadership, Space, and drones, to name a few.

The energy and enthusiasm from the cadets was electric, and the day was topped off with an incredible air display running from start to finish. It featured dozens of teams including the Red Arrows, the Global Stars, and the Grob Tutor Display Team, and aircraft you'd struggle to see anywhere else.

One of the biggest takeaways was how often the announcer mentioned that a pilot, engineer, or serving member of the military had been an air cadet themselves.

September is just around the corner, and squadrons across Central & East Yorkshire Wing are getting ready to welcome their next intake of cadets.

If you’re aged 12 and in Year 8 or above, the Royal Air Force Air Cadets could be your chance to try something completely different. From flying and gliding to fieldcraft, shooting, first aid, sport, leadership, cyber, STEM and adventurous training, there’s far more to get involved with than you might expect.

Most of our squadrons recruit new cadets around September, so now is a great time to find your nearest unit and make contact.

Recruiting now across Central & East Yorkshire.

Find your local squadron and see where Air Cadets could take you.
