Here since the 1990s, Goosemoor Nature reserve is based in Cowthorpe and is open to everyone and anyone! We have two bird hides for keen bird watchers and wheelchair friendly accessibility. It's still a work in progress so if you want to get involved please give us a message! The pond was first dug in the 1990s in a bid to create an area of natural habitat and support the local wildlife on an alre

ady Organic smallholding. An existing boggy pasture, the pond soon filled, and with the hard work of the local Young Ornithologists Club populating the area with plants, hedgerow, bird boxes, the Kestrel feeding pole and more, the Goosemoor Nature Reserve was born. With the addition from English Nature of 500 endangered Great Crested Newts, relocated from a quarry under threat at Ferrensby, the biodiversity of our little reserve really is impressive!

On behalf of myself and all the amazing small team of volunteers who have over the last 12 months attended events with a stall promoting the Reserve, kept on top of the Balsam ! Planted trees , fenced ponds, maintained paths, given guided tours to U3A , organised work days for the Cubs and Scouts , applied for grants, kept the books, ordered birdseed and taken delivery of goods including Compost Loo going in this next fortnight hopefully with enough help and just generally made GNR an amazing place to be part of , without them we could not continue , you know who you are thank you
