We absolutely hate asking for donations, which is why we try not to do it very often. ❤️

Like everyone else, we’re feeling the impact of rising costs, and the reality is that running a pigeon sanctuary is becoming more expensive every month.

Ant and I fund the vast majority of Forest Flock Pigeon Sanctuary out of our own pockets because these birds deserve a safe place to land, recover and thrive. But the costs soon add up.

🐦 Food alone costs around £400 per month
🪹 Bedding costs around £80 per month
💊 Medication top-ups are a constant expense

This week alone we’ve spent over £100 on worming treatments, parasite control and essential medication restocks to keep everyone healthy.

Every donation, no matter how small, genuinely helps us continue caring for the birds who rely on us. If you’re not in a position to donate, sharing our posts helps enormously and costs nothing.

Thank you for supporting our little sanctuary and the pigeons we love so much. ❤️

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been looking at rehoming some of my disabled birds who would benefit from more one-to-one attention. These are birds that make wonderful companions and cherished family members.

This weekend, our lovely Chicken found his forever home with an incredible couple, and they’re absolutely in love with him.

As a sanctuary, we’ll always offer a home to birds who may be considered unreleasable but are still capable of enjoying an ethical, fulfilling life in a sanctuary or as companion birds. We have recently started the careful process of finding permanent homes for some birds who can thrive living closely alongside humans.

Many of these birds are ones I’ve poured huge amounts of time, care, and love into, so it’s incredibly difficult to let them go. But ultimately, we do what’s in their best interests. 💖

If you’d like to support the work we do, please do, if you’re in a position to do so, consider a donation. Ant and I try not to ask for donations very often. We really don’t x

Something a little different yesterday. Bertie blackbird was found in the road yesterday afternoon having been clipped by a car and was a little dazed. He was rescued and spent overnight in a quiet space with water and mealworms.. He was back to full health this morning and flew off as soon as the box was opened. I overdid the mealworms so the birds in the garden got a lovely Sunday breakfast treat this morning. The picture is of Bertie when he flew off this morning.

No sooner did Ember and Stan leave and we cleaned out the aviary, there are now three new arrivals. These beauties will be here for about six weeks while they get ready for release. We have Baby Dave, Baby Britney and Joseph/ine .

All have settled in well and when I went to see them earlier, Baby Britney decided she wanted cuddles and hopped on my shoulder.

**UPDATE**

So Ember and her friend Stan left the aviary yesterday. They were both back to full health and didn't hang about when we opened the door. Good luck to them both as they go back into the wild. ❤️

An update too on Ember. Ember you may remember was found wandering with a broken beak. She is doing so well and is able to eat by herself again. She is currently in the release aviary with her friend Stan who is healing nicely from a nasty head wound. Both should be ready to be released in a couple of weeks.

It is a bank Holiday weekend here in the UK and as is typical it is pouring with rain! Here is an update on little Smokey and Stack, both recovering from injuries likely from cat attacks. Both doing well and making friends. Little Britney is also doing well and is flying! I will post a picture of her later.

So we have have some emotional but happy news here at Forest Flock. Little Loki has flown from the release aviary! At 8am this morning, we opened the hatch and he sat for over two hours just looking and not making any attempt to move. Then dramatically about three hours later he suddenly flew out of the hatch, high up into the sky and towards some big trees. His flying was strong and impressive. We are so pleased we were lucky enough to see him fly. Have a happy life little Loki, I will miss you loads! 🥰❤️🕊🌳
