🌈 What is LGBTQ+ Awareness & Community Day?

It’s an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community, raise awareness, promote equality and inclusion, and bring people together through kindness, understanding and respect.

💚 Awareness matters! Everyone deserves to live without discrimination, prejudice or judgement. By challenging stereotypes, educating ourselves and standing together, we can help create a more inclusive Sunderland.

💜 Your wellbeing matters! Your identity is valid, your feelings matter, and you deserve support. Remember to look after your mental health, speak to someone you trust when you need help, and treat yourself with kindness. You are enough just as you are. ❤️

LET'S TALK ABOUT PRIDE AND LGBT+ SERVICES! WE WANT YOUR VIEWS!

Over recent years, changes in funding have meant that some Pride events across the country have had to be cancelled, scaled back or not gone ahead at all.

But there's something else we need to think about too: the future of local LGBT+ services and support. ❤️

Pride is about more than a march. It's about bringing people together, celebrating our community, raising awareness and creating a welcoming space where everyone can feel accepted and included.

LGBT+ services are equally important. They can provide safe spaces, friendship, support, advice, information and a sense of belonging for people who may otherwise feel isolated.

🌈 But what happens when that support disappears?

Funding is becoming increasingly challenging, and community organisations cannot survive on funding alone. They also need people to use their services, spread the word, get involved and show that what they do matters.

If local communities don't support their LGBT+ services, some may eventually be forced to close. That could mean losing valuable support and safe spaces that have taken years to build.

❤️ SO, WE WANT TO ASK YOU SOME IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!

🌈 When it comes to Pride events:

🚶🏳️‍🌈 Would you miss having a march or parade celebrating equality and visibility?

🎤🎉 Would you like live entertainment, activities and stalls where everyone can come together?

🌈❤️ Would you prefer both a march and a day of entertainment and community activities?

💬 Would you miss Pride if it was no longer available? Would you stand up and fight to keep it?

🏳️‍🌈 And what about local LGBT+ services?

❤️ Do you think LGBT+ groups and support services are important to the community?

💬 Do you use local LGBT+ services, or know someone who benefits from them?

🤝 Would you be willing to support these services by attending groups, sharing information, volunteering or helping to raise awareness?

🌈 Pride events and LGBT+ services need a community that values them.

We cannot assume that these events and services will always be there. If we want them to continue, we need to show that they matter.

At Wearproud, we'd love to hear your honest views. What do Pride events and LGBT+ services mean to you? What would you miss if they were no longer available? And what do you think communities can do to help keep them going?
