CHUF What do we do? CHUF raises vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. Who are we? How can you help?

CHUF’s charitable activities, however, go far beyond that of providing medical equipment and personnel. The Charity provides holistic care to the children by providing services and facilities that allow heart children to develop their skills and mature as any healthy child normally would. CHUF supports children and families who receive treatment by the Children’s Heart Unit based at Freeman Hospit

al and the many hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North of England. The Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman hospital is one of the world’s leading specialist centres for children and babies born with, or who develop, heart conditions. The unit is just one of two in the UK that has the facilities and skills to offer paediatric transplant and bridge to transplant operations. As a result, the Children’s Heart Unit treats critically ill babies and children from across the UK. There are lots of ways you can become part of the CHUF family. Heart families inspire something precious for one another: hope ❤️

For Kay Finlay, her daughter, Haisleigh, was cared for at the Freeman Hospital after becoming critically ill. During her treatment, she suffered a stroke and was placed on ECMO. Thanks to the incredible care she received, she is now doing amazingly well. 💛

To give back to Chuf, Kay organised a Family Fun Day, complete with charity football matches and a charity darts tournament, to raise vital funds to help Chuf continue supporting Heart Heroes and their families throughout their journeys – raising an incredible £2,888.50! 🎉🫶

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Kay and everyone who helped make the day such a success. Every pound raised will help us continue funding the vital support, equipment and services that make such a difference to Heart Heroes and their families. ❤️

Kay's family's story is one of hope, resilience and kindness. By turning their own experience into something positive for others, they're helping more Heart Heroes receive the support they need throughout their journey. ✨

The first Wednesday of every month means Wellbeing Wednesday at the Children’s Heart Unit ❤️

Our Chuf team takes our Wellbeing Wednesday trolley around the wards, bringing a little comfort and kindness to the families and incredible NHS staff caring for our Heart Heroes.
From delicious donuts, kindly donated by to fresh fruit, activities and wellbeing treats, these small gestures can make a big difference.

Hospital days can be long and difficult, so we hope our trolley brings a welcome smile, warmth and a moment to pause and enjoy something together 🥰

As the Great North Run gets closer, we’re excited to announce that our Chuf Cheering Squad is looking for volunteers to join us! 🎉🎈❤️

Once again, we’ll have our designated cheer station on the Felling Bypass, where our supporters can help us bring the energy and love to all of our incredible runners raising funds for Chuf!

Last year, we went BIG with our Chuf Cheering Station, and this year we want to make it even BIGGER! 👏🎈

Whether it’s waving pom-poms, blowing whistles, making lots of noise or simply bringing the brightest smile to help our runners get through the day… our Chuf Cheer Station really does make a difference! 🥰📣

Some records change history, others show just how far determination can take you. ❤️

When Kaylee-Ann received a heart transplant at just a few months old in 1987, she became the first surviving baby in the UK to undergo the life-saving operation. Today, she is the UK's longest-surviving baby heart transplant recipient – a remarkable milestone and a true testament to everything she has overcome.

From the age of two, Kaylee-Ann competed at the British Transplant Games before going on to represent Team GB at the World Transplant Games, where she achieved her dream of becoming a World Champion as part of the 4x1 relay team. 🏅

Today, Kaylee-Ann often volunteers at Chuf events and is always on hand to help to share a smile, chat with families and share her experiences. Her warmth, encouragement and willingness to give back make a real difference to so many of our Heart Heroes and their loved ones.

Kaylee-Ann's journey is a powerful reminder of what's possible with resilience, support and the life-changing gift of organ donation. It's why we're proud to help Heart Heroes attend the Transplant Games, giving more children and young people the opportunity to build confidence, make lifelong friendships and discover what they can achieve.❤️
