The North Staffordshire Wellbeing College is also celebrating Learning Disability Week!

💙 This week is Learning Disability Week - a chance to challenge assumptions and remember to see the person, not the label.

Last Tuesday, we hosted our workshop "Connect, Adjust, Include: Living with a Learning Disability", exploring lived experience, barriers, strengths, and how small changes can make a big difference.

A huge thank you to the Staff and Experts by Experience from Broom Street Adult Learning Disability Team and the Talk & Change group for co-producing and sharing their expertise in this session.

🫶People with a learning disability have the same strengths, talents, relationships and ambitions as anyone else. With the right support and reasonable adjustments, everyone can thrive.

🤝We’re also proud to work alongside our partners EqualBase Cheadle and Landau Training and Enterprise Centre who share our commitment to inclusion and opportunities. Check our their pages and websites to see the amazing work they do!

A great reminder this Carers Week that being a carer looks different for everyone💚

If someone relies on your support because of illness, disability, mental health challenges, addiction or older age, you may be an unpaid carer too.

❎The biggest myth about carers is that they know they're carers.

Many people provide unpaid support to a family member, friend or neighbour every day without thinking of themselves as carers.

They see themselves as a wife, husband, partner, daughter, son, friend, neighbour.... the list goes on.

💚During Carers Week we'll be sharing some of the things we often hear people say when they're supporting someone they care about.

If someone relies on your support because of illness, disability, mental health challenges, addiction or older age, you may be an unpaid carer too.

👉How many of these roles describe you?

Want to learn more about what being a carer means? Keep an eye on our page this week as we share information and support available locally.

This week is Carers Week for 2026 and we want to celebrate and recognise the carers that we work with🌟

Our Greenfield's carers group meets monthly and is run in partnership with North Staffs Carers. During their time together, the group enjoy art and craft sessions, go on wellbeing walks and spend time getting to know each other. The group is also a safe space for them to be open and honest about the challenges of being a carer.

We want to thank everyone who is a carer or who has caring responsibilities. There is support available for you, visit https://www.carersweek.org/.

New creative arts therapy group on Ward 7🎨

A new creative arts therapy group has been set up for patients on Ward 7, run by Jasmine Hemmings. So far, they have been inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, Yayoi Kusama, Mark Rothko and Henri Matisse to create their own work. Staff, patients and visitors have been included on the ward and have all created pieces of art that have allowed them to discuss, think about and to visually express their emotions.

You can see some examples of their work below🤩

Mike Gibbons, husband of a former service user at The Darwin Centre, is raising money for the service through a sponsored bike ride for Combined Charity!🚴‍♂️🏆

He will be cycling from Liverpool to Chester, and back, which totals a distance of 50 miles.

Mike shared his heart behind the fundraising:

"Chloe's story is the reason I want to support this charity. To give back something that shows my undying gratitude to the hard work and support the team at the Darwin Centre do. The work at the Darwin Centre is so valuable to the lives of young people."
