In this thoughtful conversation, Joanna and Ruth share their personal journeys, what led them to become involved with the Foundation, and the experiences that continue to fuel their passion for creating meaningful change across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

They also explore how every role within the Foundation, whether strategic, operational or ambassadorial, contributes to a much bigger mission: connecting generous people and businesses with grassroots organisations that are transforming lives in our communities.

We’re looking forward to welcoming our members and partners to the annual Thank You Dinner on 16th June. It promises to be an entertaining summer evening dedicated to bringing together businesses and organisations committed to making a positive impact across Shropshire.

Events like this would not be possible without the support of businesses that believe in the power of community, collaboration and local giving. We’re incredibly grateful to Halls Estate Agents for their generous donation towards the event.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to Handelsbanken for being a joint sponsor of the evening. We would like to extend our thanks to both organisations for supporting the work of SCF and the wider SIIC network.

Across the UK, many families and trusts are shifting towards place-based giving, wanting to see the direct difference their funding makes within the communities connected to them.

A strong local example of this is the Millichope Foundation’s Village Halls and Community Spaces Fund, administered in partnership with Shropshire Community Foundation.

We’re pleased to announce that £7,500 has been shared between nine incredible organisations, providing grants to support the development, improvement and long-term sustainability of community and village halls across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

By supporting the spaces at the heart of rural communities, from village halls to shared community facilities, the fund is helping strengthen connection, reduce isolation and create more resilient local infrastructure across the county.

It’s a powerful example of how charitable trusts can create long-term social value, supporting community resilience and keeping wealth and impact within Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

A huge thank you to our Ambassador, Ged Kennedy, for visiting Read Easy Telford and Shropshire East , alongside Victoria Lawson from Pave Aways Ltd to see the remarkable impact of the Pave Aways Community Fund.

Through a grant from the fund, Read Easy is supporting seven adults in Wellington to learn to read, opening doors to greater confidence, improved employment prospects and brighter futures.

Read Easy provides free, confidential one-to-one reading coaching for adults using trained volunteer reading coaches and the highly effective Turning Pages programme. Sessions often continue over a number of months, giving learners the time and support they need to make lasting progress.

During the visit, Helen and Julie from Read Easy shared some truly inspiring stories, including:

• A mum who can now write her own shopping list

• A 79-year-old grandfather determined to read to his grandchildren

• A factory worker learning to read health and safety signs at work

These stories are a powerful reminder that literacy is far more than a practical skill. It builds confidence, independence and connection, while creating new opportunities in education and employment.

Delivered in partnership with Shropshire Community Foundation, the ÂŁ15,000 Pave Aways Community Fund was established to support organisations helping local people in Wellington improve their prospects and realise their potential.
