Your legacy stays in your community. 💜

Remember A Charity in Your Will Week | 8th–14th September 🎗️

A gift in your Will can look after the people closest to you while also leaving something lasting for the place you call home.

By naming Shropshire Community Foundation in your Will, you can choose for your gift to support a particular area of Shropshire, a cause that matters to you, or local communities more widely.

Your legacy stays local, helping to support people, organisations and communities across Shropshire for years to come.

Gifts left to Shropshire Community Foundation are charitable donations and are exempt from inheritance tax.

We always recommend seeking professional advice when making or updating your Will. If you’d like to find out more about the different ways you can leave a legacy to Shropshire, please get in touch with our team.

International Day of Charity is a chance to celebrate the difference local giving can make.

Across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, charities and community organisations are working every day to support people, strengthen communities and respond to local need.

At Shropshire Community Foundation, we’re here to help more funding reach those organisations, ensuring support stays local and creating impact that can be seen close to home.

Creating connection and support for people affected by cancer 🤝

A £500 grant from the Lingen Davies Cancer Support Fund has helped Ludlow Cancer Support Group cover essential costs including room hire and insurance, allowing the group to continue providing a safe, welcoming space for people living with or beyond cancer, as well as their families and carers.

Around 60 people come together each month, with the group offering friendship, shared experiences and peer-to-peer support. Its wider community reaches 149 people through regular updates and ongoing support.

As one member shared:
“Knowing that I’m not alone in my cancer journey keeps me going.”

It’s a great example of how relatively small grants can help sustain vital local groups and the connections that mean so much to the people they support.

Shropshire businesses are rooted in the communities around them. Their teams live here, their customers are here, and many of their suppliers are local too. So when it comes to giving back, starting close to home makes sense.

But knowing where support will make the biggest difference isn’t always easy.

Through Shropshire Community Foundation and our Shropshire Investors in Community (SIIC) network, businesses can access local knowledge, practical grant-making support and connections with grassroots organisations across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

In our latest blog, we explore why local giving matters, the difference it can make and how businesses can achieve even more by working together.

Recognising continued commitment to our communities 🤝

It's fantastic to see so many Shropshire Community Investors in Community (SIIC) members receiving their Silver Awards in recognition of their ongoing support.

Congratulations to Luke Hunter, Pre-Construction Director (Property Services) at Dodd Group , who was presented with the SIIC Silver Award by SCF Trustee Sonia Roberts.

The award recognises Dodd Group's commitment through its flow-through fund, enabling charitable donations to be distributed as grants within the year to support local communities.

Most recently, Dodd Group launched a £15,000 fund to champion women in STEM, supporting projects that inspire more women and girls to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, helping to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce for the future.

Thank you to Dodd Group for your continued partnership 🙌

Another business has joined the SIIC community 🙌

We're pleased to welcome Hughes Architects as the newest member of Shropshire Community Investors in Community (SIIC).

Established in 2001, Hughes Architects has built a strong reputation for delivering innovative architectural design and planning services across Mid Wales and Shropshire. Their commitment to shaping places and supporting local communities makes them a natural fit for the SIIC network.

As a collective, SIIC members do more than support the growth of Shropshire Community Foundation. Together, they're helping to build a stronger future for our county by investing in grassroots charities, community groups and the people they serve.

Welcome to the community, Hughes Architects. We look forward to working together 💜

Giving locally can create extraordinary change 💫

At Shropshire Community Foundation, we manage a range of philanthropic funds on behalf of individuals, families and organisations, ensuring donations are carefully administered and directed where they can have the greatest impact.

Working closely with our fund holders, we align giving with their priorities, whether that's creating a lasting legacy through long-term investment or supporting immediate community needs through grant-making.

By combining local knowledge, robust governance and strong relationships with grassroots organisations, we help donors make a meaningful difference across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

This International Youth Day, we're celebrating the amazing young people who are part of our Young People's Activity Programme 🧡

Living with sight loss can sometimes make it harder to access activities, meet new people or try new experiences. That's why our programme creates opportunities for young people to build friendships, develop new skills and take on exciting challenges in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Through our Young People’s Activity Programme, we provide opportunities for young people to try new experiences, build skills, develop independence and connect with others who understand their experiences.

From outdoor challenges and adventure activities to creative sessions, every activity is designed to encourage confidence, teamwork and a sense of achievement.

A huge thank you to our funders and partners, whose support makes this programme possible, including Telford & Wrekin Council, The Powell Family Foundation, Ulverscroft Foundation and Shropshire Community Foundation.

Through the Pave Aways Community Fund, managed by Shropshire Community Foundation, the company is supporting local charities, community groups and projects while creating opportunities for skills development and investing in the future of the communities it serves.
