So as part of our survival we made decision makers to help divide chores, practice some fishing and made “nets” by weaving loom bands ( they could make nets but also make fun bracelets)

Tonight we did a bit of survival guidance in the event of a crash/shop wreck or getting lost in the wild - the girls had to think about shelter, food and water and attempt to make filters. Sorry - some of the girls considered cannibalism very early on as a potential food source 🧟‍♂️🤔😳

Today we did a penny hike and combined it with Litter Lotto - the girls had fun and found some random thing including a hub cap and a parking notice all whilst making Shifnal a litter cleaner 🤩

On Monday we talked about
Women who inspire us and why for
International women’s day. We then designed and made Mothers day gifts. Post delayed so as not to ruin the suprise. Happy mothers day to all the moms, carers, guardians and women providing maternal guidance 💕

This week we focused on paper craft belatedly celebrating Chinese new year - the girls found out which animal and element they were and made lanterns. We the. Had a challenge to make make wishing stars, lanterns and waterbomb.

Our Scout and Guide HQ is used every week by hundreds of young people, and we’re proud to provide a safe, welcoming space for all our sections. The building is run entirely by a small volunteer committee, and while we do our best to stay on top of maintenance and improvement projects, there are many tasks where we would really benefit from additional support.
To help us manage this more sustainably, we are creating a Volunteer Skills Pool - a list of parents, carers, leaders, and supporters who are willing to offer their time and skills occasionally to help maintain and improve the HQ.
There is no regular commitment. Being part of the Skills Pool simply means we may contact you when a task arises that matches your skills. If you’re available, fantastic. If not, that’s absolutely fine.
We want to be clear:
We are not asking anyone to donate materials or cover costs. The HQ will fully fund all parts, materials, and equipment needed. We are only asking for your time, experience, and know‑how.
We’re particularly looking for people with skills in areas such as:
Electrical work (including PAT testing)
Plumbing
Gas heating (Gas Safe)
Arboriculture and hedge cutting (including highway‑side)
Security fencing and gate maintenance
CCTV (especially Hikvision systems)
General handyman skills (carpentry, painting, gutter clearance, minor repairs)
Low‑voltage/data cabling (Cat5e/Cat6)
Fundraising and grant applications
If you have other skills that might be useful, please do let us know - we’re very open to anything that could help the HQ run smoothly.
Why this matters
Many of the tasks we currently outsource are being paid for at full market rates from a very limited budget. By drawing on volunteers who have a vested interest in the success of the HQ, we can redirect that money into improving the facility instead of simply maintaining it.
A ready-made register of volunteers also means we can complete tasks more quickly, without spending time sourcing competitive quotes or waiting for contractors.
