SWWOP deliver a range of harm minimisation interventions, during outreach sessions via the project van, such as safer drug use equipment, hot drinks and nutritious sandwiches, onward referral to other agencies as appropriate, e.g pregnancy services, information sharing with the women and other relevant agencies i.e police about men who pose a physical and s*xual risk to women. Outreach sessions also provide information, advice, support, advocacy and access to enable women wanting to exit street prostitution make positive lifestyle changes.This includes organising and providing comprehensive tailored support packages for each woman and the provision of workshops aimed at equipping women with the knowledge and skills to make positive lifestyle changes.

When women experience homelessness, their top priority is survival. That means they hide.

Standard government statistics focus on visible rough sleeping, routinely missing the women who stay awake at night, ride night buses or accept unsafe accommodation just to find shelter.

Past census data revealed that in some areas, up to 10 times more women are sleeping rough than official figures suggest.

This week, SWWOP is proudly supporting the Women’s Rough Sleeping Census initiative alongside Solace Women's Aid.

Women facing exploitation and street s*x work in Sheffield deserve safe, secure housing and dedicated support. To build a system that works for them, we have to start by making sure they are accurately counted ❤️

What happens when women doing this work in different corners of the country get together?

Good conversations, lots of ideas, plenty of laughter and a reminder that we really don’t have to figure it all out alone. 💗

Yesterday Marta, Mary and Rosie headed to Bristol to spend time with the brilliant One25 team.

We shared what’s happening in our services, what we’re learning, what’s challenging us and what we can learn from each other.

Different cities. Different organisations. Similar challenges. So much knowledge to share.

Huge thank you to the team at Glass Onion! ♻️❤️

We recently reached out to the team at their Division Street store, and we have been absolutely blown away by their kindness and support!

The team took an EPIC trip down to their warehouse, and we walked away with a massive haul of incredible clothes, cozy jackets, shirts, and a brilliant collection of shoes to help see our women through.

The whole team welcomed us with open arms and they’ve even invited us back!

Community support like this makes all the difference. Thank you for supporting us and helping keep the women we support safe and warm ❤️

SWWOP welcome's Andy Burnham's pledge to end rough sleeping. It's the kind of ambition we desperately need.

But here's the challenge.

You can't end a problem if you're not counting everyone experiencing it.

Every year the headlines focus on rough sleeping figures. Yet thousands of women are missing from those numbers because women experience homelessness differently. They are sofa surfing. Staying in abusive relationships. Sleeping in cars. Moving from place to place. Exchanging s*x for a roof over their head. They are hidden in plain sight.

The system wasn't designed with women's experiences in mind and the data reflects that.

If politicians are serious about ending rough sleeping then they need to stop relying on measures that leave women out. What gets counted gets funded. What gets funded gets prioritised. Women deserve better than being invisible.

We hope Andy Burnham and his team will recognise the vital work of VSCE organisations that have stepped in where national data falls short. Projects like Solace's Women's Rough Sleeping Census are exposing the reality that official figures continue to miss.

Hidden homelessness is real. Women's homelessness counts. If we're going to end rough sleeping then every woman has to be seen.
