🌈 Pride Month 2026 🌈

This Pride Month, we at Rush House stand proudly alongside the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating identity, resilience, and the right for everyone to feel safe, accepted, and valued.

But Pride is also a moment for reflection. For many LGBTQ+ individuals, “home” is not always a place of safety.
The reality is stark:
Almost 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ people have experienced homelessness at some point in their lives.
Up to 24–30% of young people experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ+, despite being a much smaller proportion of the wider population.
77% of LGBTQ+ young people cite family rejection, abuse, or being asked to leave home as a key cause of homelessness.
LGBTQ+ individuals are also twice as likely to experience hidden homelessness, such as sofa surfing or unsafe temporary arrangements.
Behind these statistics are real people, often facing rejection, discrimination, and isolation simply for being who they are.

At Rush House, we are committed to creating inclusive, safe environments where everyone is supported without judgement. We recognise the additional challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals experiencing homelessness and remain dedicated to: ✅ Promoting dignity and respect
✅ Providing person-centred support
✅ Advocating for inclusive services and safe housing for all

Pride is about visibility, but it’s also about action.
Let’s continue to work together to ensure that everyone, regardless of their identity, has a place they can truly call home.

Last Friday looked a little different… bacon sizzling, conversations flowing, and plenty of support on offer.

We hosted a relaxed drop-in where young people could get help with employment, education and training, no pressure, just good food and support.

Our Employment, Education and Training Coach had a productive morning at the Skills and Pathways Provider Network last week!

The morning provided a chance for Pathways To Work providers to network with skills providers and discuss opportunities for those that we support.

A huge thank you to Jane from RNN Group, who recently completed her final sewing session with our young people at RUSH House.

Over the course of the sessions, participants developed a range of practical sewing skills, including embroidery, pattern making, and how to mend torn clothing. These hands-on activities not only encouraged creativity but also helped build confidence and independence.

We're proud of everything our young people have achieved and grateful to Jane for sharing her expertise, patience, and enthusiasm. The valuable life skills learned throughout these sessions will continue to benefit participants long into the future.

🌟 Productive, Positive & Reflective Team Meeting 🌟

Today, the RUSH House Education, Employment, Training and Life-Skills Team came together for a really productive meeting filled with positive discussions, shared learning, and meaningful reflection.

It was a valuable opportunity to celebrate successes, review progress, and explore ways we can continue to strengthen the support we provide. The team's commitment, collaboration, and dedication to helping people achieve their goals in education, employment, and housing was evident throughout the session.

We're proud of the passion and professionalism within our team and look forward to building on the ideas and actions discussed today.

Rush Open Their First ‘Make Work Pay’ Accommodation.

Young people who have faced homelessness deserve to reach their full potential and be excited about their future in work. But outdated Housing benefit rules have been holding them back for decades!

Because of a long-standing flaw in the system, the moment they work, vital benefits are stripped away leaving these young people financially worse off and isolated and without the support they need to transition into adulthood and independence.

Rush have been a huge supporter of Centrepoint’s campaign for change.

In November 2025’s budget, the government committed to Make Work Pay for young people in supported housing – a massive campaign win led by Centrepoint with the help of a community of campaigners who spoke out and took action for homeless young people.

However, the issue of affordable rents for young people on low incomes is still an issue, not a problem if you have support of a family, but what happens to those who don’t?

Working or housing becomes a choice of one or the other, when clearly the two should go hand in hand. Rush are proud to announce the opening of their first ‘Make Work Pay’ home. By capping the rent to ensure the young person will never pay more than a third of their salary. This property will allow a young person to continue working and have the assurance that they have a home they can be proud of and afford, without sacrificing food, clothing, gas, electric or crucially a life worth working for.

This young person will continue to have the support from our dedicated staff to ensure they can thrive and progress, both in the home and workplace.

Currently this has to be cleverly subsidised as there is no specific funding, despite that we are determined this is only the first of these properties to be made available.

To celebrate 2026 we wanted to share some feedback:

It's brilliant to see this feedback being passed on regarding one of the clients being supported as part of the Pathways To Work Programme that we are delivering.

We have worked alongside Voluntary Action Rotherham's Family Hubs VCS Volunteer Officer to secure a volunteering placement in order to assist our client in building their work experience. The process has been wonderful from start to finish, and the organisation with which they have been placed is clearly happy as well!

Community Impact in Action
A huge thankyou to Andy from Rush House Life Skills Team for delivering an engaging and impactful training session at Rotherham Titans Rugby Club Community
The session explored important topics including:
✅ Building and maintaining positive relationships
✅ Understanding and managing peer pressure
✅ Developing assertiveness skills
✅ Conflict resolution strategies
It was fantastic to see the young people getting fully involved throughout, sharing some really thoughtful reflections and insightful contributions to the discussions !
