We recently met Frank at Rotherham Cancer Care and he was kind enough to share a poem he had written about his experiences. His words offer a personal and heartfelt reflection on his journey, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share them with you.

To Diane and the team at Rotherham Cancer Care,
A sanctuary found, beyond compare.
To every soul who plays a part,
With kindness held within their heart.

A special word for the healing hands,
Where Angela and Dawn take their stands.
In therapy sessions, calm and bright,
They turned my darkness into light.

I walked through the door, a stranger alone,
Into a warmth I hadn’t yet known.
But the walls here are built with a different design,
Where "family" and "friendship" softly entwine.

For those feeling low, lost in the grey,
This is the place that shows them the way.
A brilliant spark, a steadying hand,
The finest hearts in all the land.

I leave you now, but I’m not the same,
I’m part of the family, I’m part of the flame.
Thank you for lifting me up from the floor,
And opening wide your welcoming door.

The recent heavy rain came through our roof at Shiloh and caused significant damage to our building. Water poured into our dining area – a space at the heart of Shiloh, where our guests share meals, take part in activities and access support.

The good news is that Shiloh is open and our services are continuing as best they can. But we now have a significant repair and recovery job ahead of us.

We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people who have contacted us to offer their support – and we are incredibly grateful. Right now, the biggest thing we need to do is simple: we need to get the roof fixed.

Our initial estimate for the affected section of the roof alone is around £50,000, with further costs likely for internal repairs and restoration. We don't want to divert money already given to support people experiencing homelessness into major building repairs if we can avoid it. So we're asking our wonderful Rotherham community to help.

ROTHERHAM DAY - FRIDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Rotherham Day is a new annual celebration bringing the whole borough together to celebrate our people, our communities, our businesses and everything that makes Rotherham special.

There’s no one way to take part - wear red, shop local, support a Rotherham charity, join an event, get your school or workplace involved, or simply share what makes you proud to call Rotherham home.

However you choose to celebrate, be part of it.

Back on the 2nd of June, I attended a Voluntary Action Rotherham Celebration Event, one of the speakers was June Freeman, a volounteer for Crossroads, who spoke off the cuff and from the heart, she impressed me so much I had to invite her to the Parlour to find out more about her. She is a remarkable lady who had led a remarkable life and still, her passion for life is still burning. She says she has the mind and attitude of a 35 year old and I believe her. Thank you to Zoe for the able assistance

Our matched funding campaign is now LIVE!

Right now, homelessness in Rotherham is rising. Cases increased by 46% between 2021 and 2023, leaving more adults living in insecure or unsafe accommodation.
