Last night, our CEO Charlotte Elliott did something pretty special, she was awarded South Yorkshire Higher Degree Apprentice of the Year ✨

What makes this even more meaningful is that Charlotte will be the first to say she’s never won anything like this before. This isn’t someone chasing awards, it’s someone quietly putting in the work, day in and day out, to make a difference.

Charlotte is currently completing a Level 7 apprenticeship with Whyy? Change, something she once thought wouldn’t be possible without stepping away to go to university full-time. Instead, she’s chosen to keep showing up for the young people and communities she supports, while learning, growing, and leading at the same time.

We also want to recognise the incredible support from the team at Whyy Change, alongside Team Affinity, who continue to back Charlotte as she balances earning and learning in a way that truly reflects what modern leadership can look like.

This award isn’t just about one moment, it represents resilience, commitment, and a belief that there are different pathways to success.

✨ A little renovation, a lot of pride at Affinity ✨

As part of some recent improvements to our building, we’ve been restoring our beautiful original doors. They came up wonderfully, but there was one small issue… the door handles had clearly seen better days.

Fear not. 💪

One of our graduates is now a trainee polisher at Chimo Holdings, so we asked: could there be any chance they might work their magic on our handles?
Well… my word, they certainly did.

What we have now is a restored set of handles with real legacy,craftsmanship that honours the past and will last for years to come in our building.

What really stopped me in my tracks was a conversation afterwards. Our young person shared that they’ve been working on cutlery that hadn’t been polished for over 100 years. Imagine that, a trade rooted not only in creating something new, but in preserving history.

When asked by his boss where they see themselves in 10 years’ time, their answer was simple and confident: 👉 “Owning my own cutlery firm.”

Just wonderful.
This is exactly why meaningful skills, heritage trades, and belief in young people matter.
So proud. 💙

Today is Gallery Build Day! 🌟
Team Affinity are at Gulliver’s Valley, Rotherham today, carefully installing and setting up the full gallery of artwork created by our young people.

Our staff team are busy framing, arranging, lifting, levelling and bringing the whole exhibition space to life, ready for the public launch tomorrow.

The artwork itself is exceptional. Our young people have worked incredibly hard, and today is all about making sure their creativity is presented professionally, respectfully, and with the platform it deserves.

And Friday
🎤✨ One of our talented students will also be performing live at The Birthday Party, after months of working with professional artists and producers as part of their Gold Arts Award.

We are incredibly proud of every young person involved in this project, and grateful to our dedicated staff team for making today’s gallery build possible. All the wonderful artists who have supported us.

💛 Affinity Spring Fundraising Campaign – Help Us Bring Toasties Home! 💛

At Affinity, our young people love good toasties at college; it’s a small comfort that brings a big smile to their day. Recently, many of our young people have been asking how we might raise funds so they can enjoy one at home too.

For many of our young people, home isn’t always straightforward. A large number live alone or in semi‑independent living at very young ages. Balancing bills, food, college, travel, and daily essentials is incredibly challenging,, as you can imagine. Something as simple as having a toastie maker at home can bring warmth, independence, and a little bit of joy into their everyday routines.

🎯 Our Goal

We want to buy every young person who attends Affinity and all our graduates their very own toastie maker.
A small gift with a big impact.
