Rotherham Friends Of Palestine

It was wonderful to listen to John McEvoy and Jeremy Corbyn yesterday evening, as well the local Palestinian speakers who chaired, at the Gaza Tribunal event in Sheffield. A great discussion unpicking the UK's systemic complicity in genocide, but also the importance of campaigning, community and solidarity✊️

There are 2 upcoming events in Sheffield - the Silent March for the Children of Palestine and a Fundraising dinner with sheffieldpsc and Sheffield Friends of Palestine - it would be great to show our support for them and the children and people in Palestine🤍🇵🇸

‼️Huge Success in Rotherham against Palantir‼️

On Wednesday, Rotherham council passed a motion by independent Cllr Yasseen, seconded by Green Councillor Bower, rejecting Palantir in the NHS.✊️

We're grateful for all the members of our group who came to support on the day and for helping run a successful campaign in the run up, and the many Rotherham residents writing to their councillors to back this motion.💪

This makes us the second council in South Yorkshire after Sheffield to pass a motion rejecting Palantir, a huge success in our fight against the spytech firm's exploitation of our data and their genocidal war crimes in Gaza🔥🇵🇸

URGENT CALL TO ACTION FOR ROTHERHAM RESIDENTS

This Wednesday 15th July at 2pm, Councillor Yasseen will be presenting a motion at Rotherham Council, calling to protect your health data from Palantir.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Palantir is a US based tech company with extensive involvement in military, intelligence, surveillance and immigration enforcement systems. It has been complicit in the genocide in Gaza and ICE raids in the US.

The co-founder of Palantir has said that the NHS “makes people sick” and needs to be “rip[ped] from the ground”.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

1. Write to your local councillors! Using the email template linked below, you can urge your local councillors to support the motion to protect our health data from Palantir: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IU5G6KRIbgkFE2On-zki17Ce-kpHC5Vx/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=109350092377057349616&rtpof=true&sd=true

2. Attend the meeting! Come to the Council meeting on Wednesday 15th July at 2pm to show your support for the motion - don’t forget your flags and keffiyehs.

We urge all Rotherham residents to take action: for yourselves, for your community, and for Palestine.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Short Film Social in April 2026, where we watched The Present (2020). With an insightful group discussion and wonderful homemade food, the evening helped us to strengthen our community spirit whilst engaging in meaningful dialogue about the everyday challenges of life faced by Palestinians. We also raised £200 for the Sheffield Emergency Relief Fund!

Keep an eye out for future events and actions 🇵🇸
