Monday Lunch – August Birthday Celebration (10‑08‑2026)

On 10 August 2026, we held our first birthday celebration for members with August birthdays during Monday Lunch. The event created a warm and joyful atmosphere, especially for those who were far from their hometowns. Our August birthday members felt appreciated and supported, even while living in a new place.

This small but meaningful celebration helped members feel more connected and less isolated. Many people who have recently moved to the UK can experience loneliness, and we hoped this gathering would encourage them to participate more actively and build friendships within our community.

We were delighted to see smiles, conversations, and a sense of belonging throughout the afternoon. This first celebration marked an important step in making Monday Lunch an even more welcoming and supportive space for everyone.

Digital Camping – Youth Group Update

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Miss Penlington and the Community Chest Grant, which enabled us to organise a meaningful digital camping experience for our youth group. This innovative activity allowed our young members to use digital devices to explore local wildlife in Peak District, including identifying plants, animals, and insects. They also learned point‑to‑point digital navigation, helping them understand how to safely and confidently move through natural environments.

The grant has made a real difference to our youth programme, giving our members new skills, confidence, and opportunities to connect with nature in a modern and engaging way.

Thank you once again to Miss Penlington for supporting our work and helping our youth group continue to grow and shine.

Our walking group enjoyed a beautiful but extremely hot walk from Lea Garden through Lea Bridge to High Peak Junction. Despite the heat, everyone kept spirits high, stayed hydrated, and supported one another along the route. Thank you to all who joined us for this sunny summer walk. We’ll continue to monitor weather conditions for future sessions to keep everyone safe.

Allotment 13/07/2026

Despite the recent heatwave, our allotment continued to thrive thanks to the dedication and hard work of our amazing volunteers.

They regularly watered the vegetables and carefully looked after the plants, helping them stay healthy during the hot weather. Without their time, care and commitment, many of the crops would not have grown so well.

We are truly grateful for all of our volunteers’ support. Their teamwork and kindness help keep our allotment flourishing and provide a wonderful space for everyone in our community.

Thank you to everyone who lent a helping hand!

Welcome Nichola Rodgers from South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue for a home safety session on Monday Lunch 13/07/2026

We were delighted to welcome Nicky from South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue to our Monday Lunch session this week. Her visit offered our members a friendly and informative introduction to the vital services both organisations provide across South Yorkshire.

Nicky delivered an engaging session that highlighted how the Police and Fire & Rescue teams support local communities, respond to emergencies, and work in partnership with neighbourhood groups like ours. She also explained the different ways our members can access help, report concerns, and stay safe at home and in public spaces, also the smoke alarm can protect our property and life.

The session was especially valuable for members who may not always have the opportunity to speak directly with emergency service staff. Nicky’s approachable style encouraged questions, conversations, and a better understanding of how these services can support individuals and families in everyday life.

We extend our sincere thanks to Nicky for joining us and for her commitment to community engagement. Her contribution added real value to our Monday Lunch, and we look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue.
