πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Armed Forces Day 2026 πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Today, cadets and staff from 218 (Rotherham) Squadron proudly took part in the Armed Forces Day celebrations in Rotherham Town Centre.

Armed Forces Day provides an opportunity for us to recognise and thank the men and women who serve, or have served, in the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, and Reserve Forces. It is also a chance to celebrate the strong links between the Armed Forces and our local communities.

Our cadets represented both the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and the town of Rotherham with pride, professionalism, and enthusiasm throughout the day.

A huge thank you to the event organisers, fellow cadet forces, veterans, serving personnel, and everyone who came along to support this fantastic community eventπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

✈️ Meet The Staff of 218✈️

Flight Lieutenant Robson’s journey through the Royal Air Force Air Cadets began in 2011 as a cadet at 218 (Rotherham) Squadron RAF Air Cadets. Through dedication, leadership, and commitment to the organisation, he progressed through the cadet ranks to achieve the highest cadet rank of Cadet Warrant Officer. In December 2016, he transitioned into uniformed adult service as an Adult Sergeant, continuing his passion for developing young people within the RAFAC.

In February 2023, he took on the role of Wing Radio & Cyber Officer, stepping away from 218 Squadron to focus on delivering high-quality Radio and Cyber training opportunities across South & West Yorkshire Wing. His work has supported the development of countless cadets and staff in these increasingly important training areas.

In January 2026, Flight Lieutenant Robson returned to 218 (Rotherham) Squadron RAF Air Cadets as Commanding Officer, whilst continuing to serve as the Wing Radio & Cyber Officer, combining his passion for squadron leadership with his commitment to Wing-wide training and development.

This week we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the incredible staff members at 218 Rotherham Squadron.

Our volunteers give up countless hours of their own time to support, mentor and inspire our cadets each and every week. From parade nights, camps and activities to behind-the-scenes planning and administration, none of what we do would be possible without their dedication and commitment.

Thank you for everything you do to provide opportunities, encouragement and unforgettable experiences for the young people within our squadron. Your hard work, patience and passion never go unnoticed.

218 Rotherham Squadron is incredibly proud and grateful to have such a supportive and hardworking staff team.

Thank you for all that you do β€” not just during National Volunteer Week, but every single day.

A couple of weeks ago, staff and cadets from across South & West Yorkshire Wing attended the Road Marching Weekend at RAF Cosford.

Road Marching consists of Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold awards and is an incredible activity within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. Not only does it develop fitness and endurance, but it also builds discipline, teamwork and mental resilience, whilst giving cadets the opportunity to meet and make new friends from across the Wing.

We are incredibly proud to share the achievements from the weekend:

⭐ 7 cadets attended the event for the very first time and successfully achieved their Silver Road Marching Badge β€” including our very own Cadet Peace!

⭐ 1 Cadet Forces Adult Volunteer attended for the first time:
Sergeant Taya Harrison (168 Squadron)

⭐ 8 returning cadets completed the event again, with some attending for their second and even third time!

⭐ Returning Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers included:
β€’ Pilot Officer Tony Hiorns (Officer Commanding 2460 Squadron) – 3rd completion
β€’ Flight Lieutenant Victoria Docherty (Wing Road Marching Officer) – 8th completion
β€’ Sergeant Louis Webb (218 Squadron) – 8th completion

⭐ Civilian Instructor David Frost (2008 Squadron) attended as WARMA Support Staff, having previously completed the event three times himself.

An absolutely phenomenal achievement saw 100% of the South & West Yorkshire Wing team successfully complete the marches!

All of us here at 218 Rotherham Squadron are incredibly proud of every member of staff and cadet who represented the Wing over the weekend β€” your determination, resilience and teamwork were fantastic to see.

Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you to all the incredible staff and volunteers who dedicate their time to making weekends like these possible for our cadets. Without your continued support, opportunities like this simply would not happen. πŸ‘πŸΌ

πŸ₯Ύ Silver Road Marching πŸ₯Ύ

Since August 2025, Cadet Peace has worked through the RAF Air Cadets Road Marching syllabus, progressing from Blue to Bronze and now achieving Silver Road Marching at the RAF Cosford 2 Day WARMA event.

Here, along with the South & West Yorkshire Wing Road Marching Team, he completed two consecutive days of demanding marching, over a distance of 40km per day; demonstrating strong endurance, determination, and resilience throughout.

Road marching develops far more than fitness β€” it builds discipline, teamwork, and mental toughness β€” all of which Cadet Peace displayed over the weekend, earning him the Silver Road Marching Badge and No.1 RAF Cosford 2 Day WARMA Medal.

A huge thank you to all of the South & West Yorkshire Wing Road Marching Staff, without whom this would not have been possible!

✈️NEW RECRUITS ✈️

A few weeks ago, 218 Rotherham Squadron hosted our New Recruit Evening!

It was a great opportunity for future cadets and their families to come along, look around, chat with our current cadets, and get a real insight into what RAFAC is all about β€” from the activities on offer to the experiences you can be part of.

We’re incredibly proud and grateful that so many have chosen to begin their journey with 218, and we’re excited to watch them grow and develop over the coming months.

Welcome to the squadron!
