Children learn best through play! You don’t need lots of fancy toys or days out either.

When you encourage children to get creative with household objects, you’ll be developing their communication skills as they think about and share ideas. A toilet roll tube could be a telescope, a cardboard box could be a washing machine, a few saucepans? Perhaps a drum kit!

Boxes are a great starting point.

Find some great ideas for how to use them on the National Literacy Trust's website: https://wordsforlife.org.uk/activities/playing-with-boxes/

It’s not about having lots of space or resources — it’s about the everyday things you do together. Talking, playing, listening to stories, exploring and learning through daily routines all help children grow, develop confidence and build strong foundations for learning.
