For your younger Tiny Talkers 💕, try naming the clothes as you help them get dressed:

👕 "Here's your t-shirt." 🧦 "Let's put on your socks." 👟 "Time for your shoes!"

For your older Tiny Talkers 🌟, explore more detailed vocabulary and descriptions:

🔍 Talk about sleeves, cuffs, buttons, zips and pockets 🎨 Describe colours, patterns and textures ⭐ Compare clothes: "Which jumper has the biggest buttons?" or "Can you find the striped socks?"

As you chat together, pause and give your child time to respond. Every conversation helps build their vocabulary, confidence and communication skills. 🥰💬

💡 Top Tip: Follow your child's interests and let them make choices when possible. Asking questions like "Which socks would you like today?" encourages even more talking!

Lie down or sit and look up at the sky. Chat about what shapes the clouds make. Maybe you can see a dragon, or a bus.

Try to make up a story about what you can see together. Remember, stories can be about anything. They can be short, and about something that really happened, or they can be never-ending nonsense!

🌈 There is no such thing as a "perfectly school-ready" child

Children develop at different rates and each child brings their own strengths, interests and personality to school.

If your child has SEND, speaks English as an additional language, or you're worried about their transition, talk to the school, nursery, childminder, health visitor or Family Hub for support.

💙 Hello Tiny Talkers! 💙

As part of my Year of Reading, this month I’ve been enjoying a fantastic story called What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson 🐞📘

My big sister reads the story to me and we get all cosy together on the cushions. Reading stories with her is one of my favourite things to do 💛

The funniest part was when my sister used different voices for Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh. It made me laugh so much! 🤭 I also thought it was really funny when all the farm animals made different sounds to confuse the thieves 🐄🐖🐓

After reading the story, me and Mummy made a map for my farm animals. We drew a pond, a fence and a tree. I asked Mummy to draw a cow and some sheep for me, and then I coloured them in 🎨🐑🐄

One of my favourite challenges was spotting the little ladybird on every page. Sometimes she was really hard to find! 🔍🐞

This month I learned some new words too, including cheered, purred, whisper and steal. I love learning new words when we read together 📚✨

I think What the Ladybird Heard is definitely one of my favourite books! ❤️

👶 If you have a Tiny Talker at home, why not share this story together? You could make animal noises, create a farm map, hunt for the hidden ladybird or practise some of the new words from the story.
