🦅 VIC IS COMING IN HOT! 💨🍽️

When lunch is on the menu, there’s no hanging about for Vic the Turkey Vulture! Just look at that landing - wings out, feet down and eyes firmly on the prize. 😍

Turkey vultures are seriously fascinating birds. Did you know:
• 👃 They have an incredible sense of smell, something quite unusual among birds, which helps them locate carrion from high above.
• 🪽 Their wingspan can reach around 5–6 feet, and they’re masters at riding warm air currents called thermals, allowing them to soar with very little effort.
• ❤️ That distinctive bald head has a practical purpose - it helps them stay clean while feeding.
• 🌎 As nature’s clean-up crew, vultures play a hugely important role by removing carcasses and helping to reduce the spread of disease.

A huge thank you to Keeper Chloe for capturing Vic making his rather dramatic lunchtime entrance! 😂👏

Who else wishes they were this excited when lunch arrives?

A change is coming for Rebel…

As the seasons begin to change, so will Rebel’s coat. Our Arctic fox will soon start to develop a lighter, fuller coat, helping him prepare naturally for the colder weather ahead. ❄️

Over the coming weeks, you’ll be able to see his darker summer coat gradually transform into his much fluffier winter look.

Thank you to Keeper Chloe for capturing these wonderful photos of Rebel! 📸

🎄 Christmas at Beale Park is coming… 🎄

And this year, we’re doing things a little differently. ❤️

We know that Christmas days out can get expensive very quickly, so we wanted to create something lovely for families without adding another big cost to the day.

🎅 This Christmas, meeting Father Christmas will be included with your Beale Park admission.

No separate Father Christmas ticket. No expensive add-on. Just a little more Christmas magic included in your day. ✨

And that’s only the beginning… we’ve got plenty more to reveal over the next few weeks. 👀🎁🚂

Tickets go on sale 3 September.

When you walk past the lynx enclosure and get that feeling you’re being watched… 👀🐾

You probably are.

Willow and Maple are masters of stealth. Lynx are built for stalking quietly, using their soft, padded paws to move with very little sound and their beautifully patterned coats to blend into their surroundings. Add in a lot of patience and a talent for keeping perfectly still, and they can be surprisingly hard to spot - even when they’re right in front of you!

Can you find both Willow and Maple hiding in this photo? 🔎

A big thank you to Keeper Chloe for capturing this brilliant photo of our two camouflage experts. 📸❤️

🥔 The Spud Squad has grown! 🥔

We’ve got some very exciting baby news… five little rock hyrax babies have joined the family! 💛

Mums Gnocchi and Mash have been doing a brilliant job, and their new arrivals have officially been given suitably potato-themed names. Meet…

🥔 Spud
🧇 Waffle
🥔 Tattie
🥔 Rosti
🍠 Sweet P

They’re still quite nervous and keeping close to Mum at the moment, which means getting photos of all five is proving a little tricky! 📸 We’re giving them plenty of time and space to settle in and build their confidence - but we couldn’t wait any longer to introduce the newest members of the Spud Squad.

Hopefully, as they get a little braver, we’ll be able to share lots more baby hyrax photos with you. 👀💕

A huge thank you to Keepers Chelsea and Neil for sharing the lovely baby news and photos with us! 💛

Meet the Common Marmoset! 🌿

Native to the scrub forests and rainforest edges of north-eastern Brazil, these clever little primates are specially adapted to feed on tree sap and gum. They use their sharp lower teeth to create holes in tree bark before lapping up the sap.

Their varied diet also includes fruits, flowers, insects, frogs and even small lizards. 🍎🌸🦎

In this lovely clip, you can see our marmosets exploring their enrichment. Enrichment encourages natural behaviours such as foraging, investigating and problem-solving, helping to keep the animals active and engaged.

A big thank you to Keeper Ria for capturing and sharing the footage! 💚
