One of the hardest lessons for families affected by addiction is this:

You can love someone deeply...
and still be unable to fix what they are going through.

Love matters.
Support matters.
But addiction is bigger than any one person's efforts.

If you're exhausted from carrying responsibility for someone else's choices, you are not alone.

You deserve support too.

Have you been thinking about coming to a Rebound meeting but haven't quite made it through the door yet?

Perhaps you're curious about what happens at our meetings. Perhaps you're feeling nervous. Perhaps you're wondering if anyone will really understand what you're going through.

We understand. Many of us felt exactly the same before attending for the first time.

We're a warm, friendly and caring group of people who all share lived experience of loving and caring for someone with an addiction. We know how isolating, confusing and exhausting that can be.

There is no pressure to talk if you don't want to. You can simply listen. But if you do want to share, you'll find people who understand in a way that only those who have walked this path can.

You'll find emotional support, practical advice and, perhaps most importantly, the reassurance that you are not alone.

A wonderful pledge and an important reminder that carers need support too. 💙

At Rebound, we know how much family members, partners and friends affected by a loved one's addiction carry every day, often quietly and behind the scenes. Being recognised, treated with kindness and connected to support can make such a difference.

Thank you to Mental Health in Portsmouth for shining a light on unpaid carers during Carers Week.

Support doesn’t always have to mean big changes.

Sometimes it’s just:
🗨️ hearing someone else say “I get it”
🗨️ picking up a small idea that makes your day easier
🗨️ or leaving a conversation feeling a little less alone

Small things, but they can make a real difference over time.

Some days feel heavier than others.

If today is one of those days, try not to rush yourself through it.

You’re carrying a lot. Even if no one else can see it.

The bank holiday may have looked like sunshine, relaxing and people enjoying the long weekend… but we know that for many carers of addicts, weekends like these can feel especially heavy and overwhelming.

If this has been your reality, please know you are not alone. We understand, because many of us have been there too, and we’re here for you.

You can find different ways to get in touch via our website, and our next monthly face-to-face meeting is on Tuesday, 9th June at 7pm Portsmouth Carers Centre. All warmly welcome to attend.

Please don’t carry this alone. There is support out there from people who truly understand, offering both practical and emotional support for you.

If you’ve been feeling…

…tired, even after sleeping
…on edge, without knowing why
…guilty for needing a break
…like no one quite understands

You’re not alone in that.

These feelings are more common than people realise - especially when you’re caring for someone with complex needs.

We thought this may resonate with our carers. And we hope you're remembering to take good care of yourselves too.

We thought this may resonate with our carers. And we hope you're remembering to take good care of yourselves too.

You've been snapping at people over nothing. Your sleep is a mess. You can't focus. Small things that wouldn't normally bother you feel overwhelming. And you keep thinking: What's wrong with me? Why can't I handle basic life anymore?

When you're constantly stressed, whether it's work deadlines, relationship tension, or financial pressure, your sympathetic nervous system gets stuck in "fight or flight" mode. Your body thinks it's in danger all the time. You can't relax because your system never gets the signal that the threat has passed.

Whether it's emotional, physical, or psychological, trauma leaves a lasting imprint on your nervous system. Your body remembers what happened even when your conscious mind has moved on. Certain triggers can throw you right back into survival mode without warning.

How Dysregulation Shows Up:

You overreact to small things. You feel numb or disconnected. You can't make decisions. Your body feels tense all the time. You're either wired and can't settle or so exhausted you can barely function. You snap at people you love. Simple tasks feel impossible.

True words which we are sure will resonate with carers of addicts.
