On display this weekend only!

Part of Photo Fringe 2026, Archival Loops brings together 11 lens-based artists exploring archives, memory and the stories photographs hold.

Responding to the theme of feedback loops, the exhibition considers how photographs, documents and found materials can be revisited, reworked and reinterpreted, revealing new meanings and connections each time we look again.

Exhibiting artists: Karl Bailey, Billie Rae Cawte, Patti Gaal-Holmes, Eddie Stenstrom, Laurene Bois-Mariage, Liv Harris, Mia Blake, Monica Dhaka, Sebastián Rodriguez De Castro, Evagelia Hagikalfa and Eva Voutsaki.

With deep sadness we share the news of the sudden death of Gary Moore . Gary was a big supporter of the arts in Portsmouth, and around the region, and a regular visitor to Art Space exhibitions and events. We send our sympathy and love to his family and friends.

If you wish to show your love and respect for Gary please join us for his funeral on Monday the 2nd of November at 1515 at portchester crematorium. The Wake will be held at Croxtons in Southsea where we can share stories, a Pint of Guiness and love for the legend.

If you wish to send flowers please send them to barrels funeral directors and they will take it from there.

We’re looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager to join the Aspex team 📣

This is a pivotal role, leading the way we tell our story, connect with audiences and share the artists, ideas and activity happening across our programme.

You’ll develop and deliver our marketing and communications strategy, build audiences online and in person, lead campaigns and PR, manage our digital channels, and work closely with the team to grow awareness of Aspex locally, regionally and nationally.

You’ll also play an important role in developing partnerships, supporting fundraising and helping shape how Aspex communicates with the communities around us, in addition to the day to day management of the gallery.

We’re looking for someone with strong marketing, communications and digital experience, who is curious about contemporary art and culture and enjoys working creatively and collaboratively.

Between Land and Tide by Olana Light coming to Art Space in November.

Join us for the opening of Between Land and Tide 🙌

An exhibition by Olana Light exploring the relationship between the human body, the sea and the natural world.

Through photography, film and wearable sculpture, the exhibition captures the journey of this public art project across Portsmouth, bringing together the sea-born female guardians, the monumental handmade starfish sculpture and moments from five live performances in public spaces across the city.

Inspired by Portsmouth’s coastline and tidal ecosystems, the project explores connection, environmental fragility and our relationship with the ocean, inviting us to reflect on our place within the natural world.

Please come and join us to hear Heinrich & Palmer, Belinda Mitchell and Stephen Cooper talk about their practice and research on Thursday 29th October.
We open at 6.30pm to socialise and have a drink for a 7pm start. It will finish by approx 9pm. Each artist will use the Pecha Kucha format of 20 images for 20 seconds each, giving us scope to take in their practice/research and leave time at the end for questions and points of discussion.

Heinrich & Palmer
Anna Heinrich & Leon Palmer’s long-standing collaborative, multi-disciplinary practice encompasses installations, large scale projection events, films, photography and soundscapes. Their work reflects a fascination between the augmentation of real and virtual objects and spaces. Many of their projects are developed in response to site and community through research, engagement and collaboration with others. They are often installed in non-gallery environments and explore themes of memory, place, natural phenomena and deep time.

Belinda Mitchell
Belinda is a visual artist whose practice reconsiders how interiors are represented and experienced through embodied approaches and digital technologies, informed by New Materialist thought. Recently in collaboration with Stephen Cooper, she explored the intersections of architecture and fine art, combining architectural drawing with artistic experimentation to develop alternative ways of imagining, representing and producing space.

Stephen Cooper
Stephen is an artist whose practice explores the intersections of painting, sculpture, architecture and site-specific installation. Working across materials and spatial forms, he investigates how we perceive and experience environments, drawing attention to the relationships between physical space, memory and consciousness. His work challenges the boundaries between artwork and architectural setting, inviting new ways of understanding how spaces are constructed, inhabited and experienced.
