🥾🐾 Team member Jemma is taking on a huge challenge to raise funds for Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs — a 3-day hike along the Jurassic Coast from Lulworth to Poole! 💛

Jemma has been a volunteer for the last two years as a Training Support - a vital role which includes hiding for our search dogs in all weathers! She is now working towards becoming an Operational Support and deploying to incidents.

“Being part of HSAR Dogs has shown me just how much dedication goes into every search and how important the team is when someone goes missing. This hike is my way of helping ensure we can continue supporting those who need us most.” 🐾

If you’d like to support Jemma you can donate via her Go Fund Me page. She is not far off her £300 target 🎯

A huge thank you to The Salmon Leap Pub, for having us at their annual spring motorbike run today.

The team had a brilliant time cooking bacon and sausage baps, meeting so many friendly faces and being a part of such a fantastic community event.

We are incredibly grateful to
The Salmon Leap ,the riders and everyone who came along, donated, chatted and kept us busy on the grill.

We were delighted to receive an amazing £2,000 donation from ‘Yateley Christmas Lights’ last year. This fantastic event organised by Keith Woodward BEM and his family, brings the community together in wonderful way.

📸 Pictured is Keith and his family with our volunteers during a recent training session, where the donation was formally handed over, along with some items from our Amazon Wish List.

As Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs, this support helps us continue training, equipping and deploying our volunteers and search dogs when they’re needed most.

£1,000 will support training and equipping a volunteer and search dog. £500 will go towards our ‘Operational Fleet Support Project’The remainder will fund essential training equipment and wish list items 💛 🐾 .

We couldn’t do what we do without you — every penny helps keep our volunteers operational and saving lives.

Thank you to everyone who supported the event — it truly makes a difference.

This weekend the team did something a little different, spending time learning about Canine cognition and how it can support working dog selection.

The seminar was delivered by Georgie from Endeavour Canine who worked with several of our existing dogs and handlers as well as few potential new recruits, over the weekend we explored how individual dogs learn and process information.

The combination of thoughtful theory, real world application and open discussion created an environment where everyone could learn, challenge ideas and take away practical considerations for future training and dog selection.

A huge thanks to Steve at Cainark dog training for allowing us to use their fantastic facility for the weekend and once again thanks to Georgie for delivering such an insightful and engaging seminar.

This week saw the Team’s AGM (Annual General Meeting), where Dog Training Lead and Handler Conor presented our new Heritage Trophy, voted by the team, for the team.

A huge congratulations to this year's winner, Bug Wrightson 🧡🐾

The Heritage Trophy exists to celebrate our greatest strength, our volunteers, while paying a heartfelt tribute to our retired search dogs. Awarded annually at the AGM, it honours the incredible commitment and dedication of everyone in our team. Whether hiding in bushes during training or securing grants behind the scenes, every volunteer plays a vital role in enabling our dogs to search for vulnerable missing people. Without their selfless effort, our team simply would not exist. This trophy is our opportunity to recognise individuals at every level who make these canine heroes and our mission possible.

“Bug has been a cornerstone of the team since 2013, demonstrating extraordinary commitment over more than a decade. He has served in multiple operational roles - from operational support through to Level 3 handler - often deploying on personal milestones, including his wedding anniversary.

Bug is consistently approachable, positive, and supportive, making a genuine effort to welcome and encourage others, particularly newer members. As a former Chair, he was an excellent advocate and ambassador for the team. He continues to contribute through operational deployments, fundraising talks, and public engagement. His perseverance, humility, and willingness to keep learning - especially through challenges - truly epitomise the spirit of this award.”

***CALLOUT-16***
We were tasked to search the River Avon in Chippenham at 05:45 this morning, following reports of a concern for the welfare of a man.

Severn Area Rescue Association also responded with a second boat and crew from Sharpness Lifeboat Station and Gloucester.
Avon & Somerset Search and Rescue and Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs were on standby to send more volunteers if relief crews are required.

***UPDATE***
Our powered boat, sled, 4x4 and Incident Control Unit were mobilised. 13 of our volunteers and 7 from SARA deployed to the scene immediately, with a further 20 on standby to attend later if relief was required. An inflatable hose was used for downstream protection.

Our volunteers were joined by the Avon and Somerset Dive Team. We spent the morning working together to bring the body back to the surface, and transport them by boat back to land. By 14:00, all volunteers had completed the return to service of kit and were able to return to work.

Our thoughts go out to the persons’ loved ones at this sad time.
