💔 Now permanently closed 😢

We officially closed last Thursday, and we're heartbroken but so so grateful that this project ran for 6 years (we launched the PFL committee in Sept 2018! 🤯). The positive consumer and environmental change this community has achieved is nothing short of amazing 💚

Thank you to every customer, every volunteer, all our amazing staff and everyone that has pitched in to turn this beautiful shop into a success.

🌍 I know we'll all still carry on to reduce waste where we can, and who knows, maybe someone will launch another solution to keep Portsmouth as plastic free as possible. We send all our gratitude and love, the PFL team x

🗣️ Important updates - closed today (Sunday 3rd) and final day brought forward to this Thursday 7th Nov: 🌍

Thank you so much to all who have visited us since the announcement of our closure; it has been a very difficult time and we appreciate your support whilst we try to navigate this situation the best way we can.

Our final date of trading in the shop has changed to Thursday 7th November at 17:30. Unfortunately due to unexpected circumstances we're not able to open today (Sunday), and our final opening hours are:

MONDAY - closed

TUES/WEDS/THURS - 11am-5:30pm

If you have time to come in and say goodbye, we'd absolutely love to see you! We still have stock to sell and also a variety of furniture, storage, kitchen equipment etc. Please do tell any shop owners you know to pop by before EOD Thursday to have a look!

We can’t quite believe it’s our last week 😢 Thank you all for your support this final month, it's meant the world. Once things have settled down we absolutely hope to plan a get together for us to celebrate an amazing 5 year journey, and we'll share more info about this soon.

Thank you for your understanding everyone 💚💚💚

So!! The bulk order has ended, and you wonderful folks in our community leapt to support us with it, which is incredible! We are very grateful for all of your support with this, and it'll make a huuuge difference to us at the end of all this.

What next, I hear you cry?? Well, as well as selling all of our remaining stock, we're going to need to sell our assets - fridges, freezer, light fittings, tables, chairs; it's all gotta go! So today, we're adding a list of all of our assets, and their prices, to our Linktree just like we did with the bulk order:
https://linktr.ee/thepackagefreelarder?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=c9073a06-c901-4d1d-bd41-407d54719988

Have a look over it, and if you see anything you like, drop us an email - [email protected], innit. Pop "FAO David - Asset Sale" in the subject line, and the listed name of the asset you'd like to purchase or enquire after, and we'll get back to you ASAP.

We'd also like you to share this with anyone you think might be relevant - friends, shops, businesses; anyone! We're going to need all the help we can get selling this lot, so anything you can do, no matter how small, will help us immensely.

As things get sold, we'll update the list, but we're only human, so please don't be too disappointed if we've already sold something you were looking for, but feel free to ask any questions about anything at all, even if you don't see it listed.

And that's the lot! Thank you all so much for your support so far, and we'll be in touch with more ways that you can help us close in the near future!

*** YET ANOTHER UPDATE! ***

We can order the delicious Bubblehead Barista coffee in bulk for you, one last time!!

Bubblehead Barista have rather graciously given us a final bulk order opportunity for our customers! So, we are pleased to offer coffee purchasable at the prices listed in the next slide, in multiples of the weights given - and the weights given are the minimum available.

PRICES:

Rwandan One Pull: £25.50 per kilo

Columbian Five Bells: £24 per kilo

Decaf Columbian Omitted C: £25.50 per kilo

So, how does this work?

Just email the amount you want through to the same email address ([email protected]) and title the email "FAO Ben - Bubblehead Order", and I'll add you to our order list.

As before, this will be a pay up-front offer, so we'll send out the invoices asap.

Once everyone has paid for their order, we will place it with Bubblehead Barista, and when the products arrive in store we will notify everyone so that you can come and collect it!
It's that simple :)

Thank you all so much for all your support in the current Bulk Order offering, and please know that whilst our announcements may seem haphazard, we are trying to make this as stress-free for all involved, including you as our customers, so we've been taking our time to make sure it all goes as smoothly as possible!

And that's about it!

If you want some clarity on anything here, please contact us on the email mentioned, but thank you all so much in advance for helping us out!

*** UPDATE!! ***

WE ARE EXTENDING OUR DEADLINE FOR ORDERS UNTIL MONDAY OCTOBER 28TH!!

We said we would consider extending the deadline in our first post, but the reason is actually that you have all responded so overwhelmingly positively that we want to give more of you chance to order, as well as give us time to get the invoices out to you so we can get the payments sorted in time!

Thank you all so much! And for those of you that haven't see this yet, the details on how to order with us one last time are as follows -

We've composed a product list for you of the things we can order from our suppliers, and their cost to you, and added links to them in both PDF and Google Sheets format on our Linktree page (in our Instagram bio) AND on our webpage (the button just under our banner).

Have a look over the list and see if there's anything you would like to order on there, and then pop the product, and product code, into an email and fire it across to us at [email protected], and title the email "FAO Ben - Bulk Order". If what you're looking for isn't on the list, please email us anyway, and we'll look into whether we can get it for you, and if we can, we'll confirm that with you and let you know how much it will cost you.

We'll then collate everyone's orders, and so long as it exceeds our minimum order quantity, we'll email back with confirmation that we're going ahead, and arrange a time for you to pop in and pay for your order.

Once everyone has paid for their order, we will place it with our supplier, and when the products arrive in store we will notify everyone so that you can come and collect it! It's that simple :)

And that's about it! If you want some clarity on anything here, please contact us on the email mentioned.

20/10/2024

As we mentioned briefly in our closing down post, we are intending to do one final pay-up-front bulk order with one of our suppliers, both in order to help us try and close as debt-free as possible, and also to give you folks the opportunity to get your essentials one last time with us.

So, how does this work? Well, we've composed a product list for you of the things we can order from our suppliers, and their cost to you, and added links to them in both PDF and Google Sheets format on our Linktree page: https://linktr.ee/thepackagefreelarder and on our webpage: https://packagefreelarder.uk/

We aim to have everything sorted and ordered by this Wednesday 23rd October, but if we haven't had enough interest by then, we will extend the offer for a further week until Wednesday 30th October.

And that's about it! If you want some clarity on anything here, please contact us on the email mentioned.

To our wonderful Community,

Thank you for all your support and the kind messages we've received following the announcement of our shop's closure on Monday. While we are heartbroken 💔, we feel uplifted by the overwhelming love and solidarity from you all during this challenging time 💚.

Now, more than ever, we need your help to navigate the difficult weeks ahead. As we’ve always said—and as you’ve shown us—The Package Free Larder is more than just a shop; it’s a community. We hope this spirit will continue to thrive, empowering us to care for our environment 🌍 and embrace our roles as responsible consumers.

Many of you—individuals, businesses, and community groups—have asked how you can lend a hand. Here are a few ways you can help:

Shop with Us 🛒: Whether big or small, every purchase makes a difference. Help us clear our stock so we are not left with 30g of risotto rice or 17ml of shampoo. Every little bit counts! Please note our new opening hours starting Monday 21st October until our last day, Sunday 10th November 2024:

Monday - CLOSED
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday - 11am- 5:30pm
Friday - 9am - 4:30pm (as usual)
Saturday/Sunday- 10am -5:30pm (as usual)

Bulk Buy Orders 📦: We will offer bulk buy opportunities so you can stock up on products and help us purchase additional stock to meet our final financial commitments. Bulk orders will be available, on a limited range of products, and must be paid for upfront. You can team up with friends or other customers to share bulk orders—stay tuned for more details very soon.

Rent Our Space 🏠: If you need a short-term space for work or art projects 🎨, our shop will be available for rent until we return the keys at the end of February 2025. Feel free to reach out to discuss the possibilities.

Buy Our Assets 🛠: We have many items for sale, including containers, dispensers, scoops, lamps, beautiful wooden shelves, tables, and more. If you are interested in purchasing for your business or personal projects, please get in touch.

Your Support 💌: Your messages of gratitude and encouragement mean the world to us—thank you! 🌟

To our wonderful community: it is with great sadness that after nearly 5 years, we are announcing the closure of The Package Free Larder 😭

We understand that this may come as a shock, but maybe not a surprise if you have been shopping with us recently, and despite our best efforts, we have exhausted all options with the resources we have. Increases in operating costs and stock prices, alongside a lack of resources and funding that would be required to drive new initiatives, have taken their toll, and the store is no longer sustainable financially. Also, given the amount of funding we would require to get the business running again, and without being able to guarantee the success of any strategies in the long term, we feel it would be unethical to seek external funding in any form that wouldn’t compromise the ethos and organisational methods that the store exemplifies.

We’d like to thank the countless number of people who have given their time and donated towards this community project; although we are devastated to close our store, we are extremely proud of all we have achieved and we are leaving with our heads high.

As a team, and a community, we have had the opportunity to learn and inspire change in a world where shopping is still so fast-paced and disposable. We can only hope that we have created a hub where a broad and diverse community of like-minded people can connect, share stories, and gain skills, and that we have also become a safe space for all members of our community, regardless of background or identity. And, finally, we hope that being a part of this wonderful community has been as fulfilling an experience for you as it has been for all of us here at PFL.

👉 What happens next?

Our last day of trading will be Sunday 10th November, and we’ll update you with plans to sell off our remaining stock as and when we have the relevant information to pass on. As a team of staff and volunteers, our main focus now is to ensure that when we close we’ve cleared off all our supplier, VAT, and other debts, and in order to ensure this is possible we will need your help to spread the word far and wide. We’ll share more details as and when we are able to.

Although the PFL will cease to trade on November 10th, we may need to retain the space for longer due to contractual obligations with our landlord. We are currently deliberating over our options regarding this, and once we have concrete information we will be in touch to explain our next steps in this area.

In the next week or so, we are hoping to ask you to engage in one final pay-up-front bulk order so you can get whatever essentials you may require, and also help facilitate us purchasing some additional stock that will see us through to closure and help us meet our financial obligations. If you’d like to place a bulk order with us before we close, please enquire in-store or by emailing [email protected].

And finally, due to our financial circumstances and our need to maximise return in order to pay suppliers etc, we are also ending all discounts (memberships, student etc) effective immediately; we hope you understand our need to do this.

To be frank, this is an incredibly difficult time for everyone involved in the store, and we’re sure that this will impact yourselves as customers, too. Trying to process the necessary decision, that none of us wanted to make, is going to be painful. And we hope that once the store has been brought to a close, we can arrange some form of get together to discuss possible future plans that we can act upon as a community.
Hopefully we can, as a community, continue to embody the slogan “We don’t need one person doing zero waste perfectly, we need a community of people doing it imperfectly”, and we will endeavour to find ways for us to continue the legacy of what we have created here at the store, and utilise the valuable lessons and skills learned as we move forward.

Thank you all so very much for all of your custom, support, and love over the years. It has been an incredible journey building this community, and we’re very proud to have been able to get to know you all so well over the last four and a bit years. Come say bye though, innit, or we’ll be well sad!!

Lots of love, everyone at The Package Free Larder x
