A HOME FOR b-side
For nearly two decades, Portland has been b-side's home.
It's where we've commissioned artists, made festivals, worked with communities, supported young people and created space for ideas that could only happen here.
Now we want to make that home permanent.
We're working to put together a £750,000 funding package to secure a permanent creative home on Portland. This will come from a combination of grants, major donors, mortgage finance - and our community.
Our public crowdfunding target is £50,000.
A permanent home would give artists somewhere to stay, research and make; communities somewhere to meet and create; young people somewhere to develop skills and ideas; and b-side the security to keep making extraordinary things happen across Portland and beyond.
That home could be our current b-side building, or another suitable property that gives us the spaces we need.

From the fairground into the interior

Originally created for b-side festival, these fairground fragments have moved from temporary installations in the streets of Portland into individual wallpaper artworks for the home.

Painted signs, decorative pelmets and fragments of fairground ornament bring their colour, pattern and sense of illusion into an interior.

But Sean's story is about much more than endurance. As an award-winning mental health champion and facilitator at Andy's Man Club Portland, he's passionate about getting people talking, supporting one another and making a difference.

💙 SMALL. LOCAL. INDEPENDENT. WORTH PROTECTING.

We’re delighted to see bnb-side featured in The Telegraph, in a piece celebrating the great British B&B and asking why these small, characterful, independent places are worth protecting.

For us, bnb-side is about much more than a bed for the night.

It’s a six-room creative accomdation B&B run here on Portland, with local knowledge, local connections and work by artists inspired by Portland on the walls. Most importantly, the income it generates goes straight back into b-side, helping us support artists, work with our community and bring extraordinary art to Portland.

And right now, our community is helping us towards an even bigger ambition: buying the building that is home to b-side and bnb-side and securing our future on Portland.
