Welcome to the Andrew Simpson Foundation official page. The Founding trustees are Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy OBE and Andrew’s wife Leah.

The Andrew Simpson Foundation was founded in memory of, and inspired by, Olympic Gold medallist, sailor Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson. We give thousands of young people the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from the life changing challenges of sailing. Participating in sailing and watersports builds self-confidence, develops essential life skills and enhances young people’s wellbeing. We believe that every single young person deserves to feel confident, be healthy, and know their worth. We’re passionate about making sailing available to every child, teenager, and young adult because it can do all of this and much more. For our second Careers Week, we've taken learning onto the water to see SailGP team roles and responsibilities in action.

We've partnered with the team at Artemis SailGP to inspire local young people from Portsmouth Sail Training Trust and share the career pathways across the world of competitive sailing. Our focus for the week has been on the chase drivers, shore team, social media and tech team on hand to support.

This week has been made possible through the Andrew Simpson Foundation's Purpose Partnership with Artemis SailGP, giving young people the chance to see where the skills they’re developing could take them.

We'd like to wish Herbosch-Kiere the very best of luck as they take on their Port-2-Port cycling challenge to raise funds for the Andrew Simpson Foundation! 🚲

The riders were up bright and early ready to ride, setting off from Southampton to cover over 272km over two days. We're thrilled the team have chosen to take on this remarkable challenge in aid of our charity, enabling even more young people to discover new possibilities on the water.

As part of our Careers Week, young people from the Portsmouth Sail Training Trust have been exploring how the skills they’re building could lead to a career in the sport and marine industries.

They’ve been learning about the different job roles that support the SailGP team and how teamwork, communication, problem-solving and qualifications gained through the Sail Training Trust programme can shape career pathways.

The week has been made possible through the Andrew Simpson Foundation’s Purpose Partnership with Artemis SailGP, giving young people the chance to see where the skills they’re developing could take them.

We recently had the privilege of supporting the RNSA in welcoming their Patron and Admiral, Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, to Andrew Simpson Centres Portsmouth. The visit was an opportunity to share and celebrate the impact of RNSA’s work and introduce Her Royal Highness to some of its beneficiaries and members.

We’re proud to be the delivery partner for RNSA Sail Together programmes, which provide free sailing and windsurfing experiences for serving and reservist Royal Navy personnel, their spouses, and children. Through the programmes, participants can meet others who share similar experiences, build new skills in a fun and friendly environment, and earn qualifications they can take forward in life and work.

We also welcomed the opportunity to speak to Her Royal Highness about Connected Communities, a new project between Greenwich Hospital and the Andrew Simpson Foundation, supported by the Royal Navy. The project aims to strengthen the communities in which Royal Navy people and their families live, by creating more opportunities that support positive physical and mental wellbeing.

Building connected communities is one of our core pillars of impact at the Andrew Simpson Foundation, recognising the role that sport, outdoor activity and shared community spaces can play in supporting our beneficiaries’ wellbeing, resilience and positive outcomes.

Last week, the team at Andrew Simpson Centres Portsmouth welcomed Bird Aware Solent for a training session focused on the incredible wildlife found around the Solent.

The session gave our instructors a greater understanding of local bird species, the pressures they face and how watersports can play a part in reducing disturbance and protecting these important habitats.

This was a great opportunity to build our team’s environmental knowledge and explore how we can pass that learning on to the young people and communities we work with.

A big thank you to the Bird Aware Solent team for sharing their knowledge with us. We look forward to seeing what we can do together in the future.

There's still spaces left for serving Royal Navy families at our FREE Connected Families weekend!

Join us for a weekend of outdoor adventures along with other families, couples and individuals, giving you the chance to connect with others and enjoy our incredible natural spaces.

📅 16–18 October 2026

📍Blairvadach Outdoor Education Centre, Rhu, Scotland

Spaces are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The weekend and activity day are open to individuals, couples and families with children over five whose serving person is based at HMNB Clyde.

We’re delivering the weekend through Connected Communities, a new project with Greenwich Hospital to strengthen the communities in which Royal Navy people and their families live, supported by the Royal Navy.

Our Ocean Champions series came to a close last week with our final session 🦀

To round off six weeks of learning, the group headed to the shore with their 'Biodiversity Bingo' sheets to spot the huge variety of creatures living on our coastlines from dog whelks to seagrass fragments. To celebrate their achievement, each learner was awarded a certificate at the end of the session!

We're so proud of our group for their hard work and efforts throughout each session. Organised in partnership with Artemis SailGP, our Ocean Champions programme was a chance to spark curiosity, explore local coastlines and inspire the next generation of ocean ambassadors.

Why have our Ocean Champions been testing for phosphate and nitrate in our local waters during their sessions?

Measuring levels of these nutrients can tell us a lot about how polluted our waters are. Too much nitrate and phosphate can feed excessive algae and plant growth, harming ecosystems that species of fish and other wildlife rely on to survive.

Our Ocean Champions series in partnership with Artemis SailGP is designed to help local young people understand how they impact the coastal spaces on their doorstep. By bringing ocean science to life, our sessions will inspire and educate the next generation of ocean ambassadors.
