Staff member Katy enjoyed chatting with AIR 107.2 - Weymouth & Portland Radio Presenter and Program Manager Dave Goulden this morning about our work as part of Local Radio Week.

It was also wonderful to hear all the exciting new plans that Air FM have including the 'What's On' feature of their website which we'll definitely be using to promote our events and we'd encourage other local community groups to take advantage of this free advertising too.

Huge congratulations to our intrepid Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award group that braved the heat this weekend to complete a full 3 days hiking and 2 nights on Dartmoor, in preparation for their assessed expedition next month.

With some adaptions due to the heat including routes that offered shade, less weight carried, paddling stops and lots of rest and water breaks, the young people demonstrated fantastic teamwork, fitness and resilience.

Once again thank you so much to our fabulous team of volunteers Stephen, Eddie and Mary for all their hardworking, planning and professionalism thar created a wonderful weekend for these local young people, packed full of memories to last a lifetime.

Atlantic Academy Portland

We're absolutely delighted that our Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme volunteer leader and PE teacher at Atlantic Academy Portland, Mairead, was selected to celebrate 70 years of the award at a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace today.

We couldn't be more grateful to the team of people that give up their time to support local young people to challenge themselves to reach their full potential. It's wonderful to see volunteers rewarded, for the time, energy, skill and dedication they donate, through events like this.

Huge thank you to the fabulous volunteers from Atlantic Academy Portland, that spent the weekend in Purbeck, getting our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme young people ready for their assessed expedition in June.

The groups did really well, behaved impeccably and covered some serious distances, whilst carrying their kit and getting to grips with independently navigating their way through checkpoints using an OS map and compass.

Wonderful volunteers from Toastmasters Casterbridge Speakers came to work with Portland Youth Council tonight.

The group learnt about how to put together a powerful speech and presentation, voice projection and the real secret - almost everyone is nervous about speaking in public!

Thank you so much to Jane, Aldona and Doug, all of whom gave up their time to share this important skill with our young people.

We were so proud of each and every member for giving it a go and being so supportive of each other.

Now time to practice 😁✨
