One of many messages Portland Global Friendship Group continues to receive from our friends who were accommodated on The Bibby Stockholm barge. It's so good to hear when things are going well (many are still caught up in the complexities of gaining asylum).

So many of the asylum seekers we got to know put back into our community whilst they were here on Portland and want to continue with this ethos moving forward with their lives. Doesn't quite fit with the Farage/Robinson/Reform "narrative" does it?

We're delighted to have received feedback from Gaza, following the donations we were able to send to them following our really successful film night earlier this year. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us, and those who were able to make donations. 🙏 Some of the money went towards the well project, for a dense population in Gaza City, where people have homes that have not been bombed, but no water/electricity. This is the fourth of the water projects which is up and running on diesel at present but soon it is hoped that solar panels with batteries will be installed. And, some of the money went to our food kitchen in Khan Younis. You can see the thank you's in the pictures below đŸ«¶đŸ«¶đŸ«¶

A nice read by Georgie Holmes. A final year PhD researcher at Aston University. Her research is on boat spaces and materialities of migratory Channel crossings and includes research into the Bibby Stockholm.

Imagine a technique that can heal Britain of division and keep out the hard right. I call it ‘radical listening’ | George Monbiot

In my constituency, a group of volunteers chats with people – most of whom find they are to the left of their voting intentions, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Dear Electoral Commission Regulatory Team,

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the campaign tactics recently announced by Reform UK on May 4, 2026.

The party's home affairs spokesperson has publicly committed to a policy of "prioritising" the placement of migrant detention centres—with a proposed capacity of 24,000 individuals—specifically in constituencies and council areas that vote for the Green Party. Conversely, the party has "guaranteed" that areas electing Reform UK representatives will be exempt from these facilities.

I believe this constitutes "Undue Influence" under the Representation of the People Act, as it uses the threat of infrastructure placement to pressure citizens into voting a certain way or to penalise them for their existing political affiliations. This tactic appears designed to:

* Intimidate voters by threatening negative local consequences for their democratic choices.

* Incentivise votes through the promise of specific geographic exemptions that are not based on administrative or logistical necessity, but purely on partisan alignment.

Threatening to punish specific geographical areas based on their voting record is a violation of the principle that elections should be free from coercion. I urge the Commission to investigate whether this policy breaches the Electoral Code of Conduct or the legal prohibitions against intimidatory behaviour in campaigning.

I look forward to your response regarding the steps being taken to ensure the integrity of the 2026 local and further national elections.

But hey let's continue to blame asylum seekers for issues that they should NOT be blamed for.

Whilst a community rallied round to provide soap, toothpaste and other essential items for our friends on The Bibby Stockholm barge, this level of fraud and corruption was taking place.

And let's not forget that Joyce Landry from Landry and Kling (the company Corporate Travel Management sub contracted the barge contract to) was regularly flown in from Miami to Dorset for briefing meetings.

But yet there are many who think asylum seekers who receive approximately ÂŁ9 a week on which to survive are to blame for everything that is wrong in this country.

Australia’s Corporate Travel Management is ‘negotiating commercial arrangements’ to refund the money

While any misconduct should rightly attract scrutiny, it is deeply misleading for these findings to be amplified in a way that risks distorting public debate.

News from Crowborough (where a military camp is being used to house asylum seekers). The local volunteers are doing amazing work despite the hideous provocations they and the asylum seekers are facing............

The unpleasant activists - those nasty vigilante groups with their cheap flags and their drones, and their filming of innocent people, their bullying and their efforts to bring down businesses - stop at nothing with their malicious campaign.

Lie of the week 16th April, please share.

Yet again they are rolling out lies about the camp to drum up support for the dwindling protest

Today's lie is that there is an outbreak of TB on the camp.

This unsurprisingly is totally fabricated.

Despite some extremely gullible people believing the utter nonsense they keep putting out we can confirm there has been

No stabbing

No fighting

No absconding ( the men are not prisoners)

No riot

No touching of girls

No following women or girls

No leering at school children ( the man was picking up his own child and photographed because he had dark skin)

No helicopter

No violence on the camp

No 400 electric bikes

No 400 iPhones

No drunk asylum seeker knocking on doors ( it was a delivery man)

In fact there have been no incidents at all on the camp or in the town involving asylum seekers.

Please remember every week they come up with these lies to stir up hatred. Just imagine being that sad.
