Welcome to Mere Sands Wood a beautiful 42 hectare nature reserve in the heart of West Lancashire.

Join us for a cosy, traditional Bonfire Night at Mere Sands Wood without scary loud fireworks or rides! Our Bonfire Night event is perfect for little ones, those with dogs and for children and adults with sensory sensitivities.

Enjoy music from a local acoustic artist and a delicious selection of hot and cold refreshments from our cafe available throughout the evening.

Our bonfire will be constructed from conservation byproducts, ensuring a responsible and eco-friendly experience. Proceeds from ticket sales also support our conservation work 💚

After the fun of Halloween is over, it may seem like a nice idea to leave your pumpkin out for wildlife. Sadly this can often do more harm than good, causing disease to spread and making some species unwell.

Eating pumpkin makes hedgehogs in particular very poorly, causing diarrhoea and leaving them dehydrated. This can be fatal at this important time of year when they need to build up their energy for hibernation. 🦔

Xplorer challenge returns to Mere Sands Wood this half term week 🗺️

From the 24th October to the 1st November, take on our fun family orienteering challenge and embark on your own quest around the reserve as you hunt for all the markers 🔎

There are two challenges to choose from. Challenge 1 is an easier route with markers clearly visible from the main paths, making it suitable for those with young children, anyone new to Mere Sands Wood and also wheelchair and pram users. Challenge 2 takes you on a more challenging route with markers hidden in less obvious spots around the reserve.

Xplorer is a great way to get the whole family outside and offers a fun way to explore Mere Sands Wood!

We’re calling on all wildlife lovers! Do you have books, optics or tools gathering dust? Your unwanted items could be a game changer for nature and for us.

What are we accepting?:

🧰 Tools that can help us with our maintenance/conservation work
