We aim to give bereaved children a brighter tomorrow🌈 We had the perfect family; two gorgeous children, twins, Jessica and Harry.

We couldn’t have asked for anything more and we had five and a half wonderful years until our lives were tragically turned upside down. Our little boy Harry died unexpectedly in March 2009 leaving a great void in all of our lives. We found it very difficult to get the bereavement help and support we needed as a family and in particular for Jessica, a five and half year old who had lost her twin brother, there wasn’t really anywhere locally that we could turn to. So:
In October 2011, Harry’s legacy, “Harry’s Rainbow” was born. Harry’s Rainbow is committed to supporting bereaved children and their families in the Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. We know intimately the feelings of loss, pain, anger and grief, and the sheer devastation to our lives caused when such a tragedy occurs. We know how difficult it can be to help and support your children through their pain, grief and loss at the same time as trying to deal with your own. Harry’s Rainbow’s aim is:
To support the children affected by the death of a very significant family member, such as a parent or sibling, by providing resources, group activities, trips and family outings

We were delighted to deliver training to over 100 school staff members during their INSET days during the first week back of the 2026-2027 Academic Year.

We received some amazing feedback such as this ...

"Thank you so much for your training, it was such a useful session. I had questioned whether it was the right thing for the first Inset of a new academic year but I need not have worried, your training hit just the right mark and you made what is a difficult subject accessible and normal."

A little look at the impact of our bereavement awareness training so far 🌈

Since January 2026, we’ve delivered training to 16 schools, reaching 334 teachers and the 3,947 children on their school rolls.

With 6 more bookings already in the diary, we’re on track to reach a minimum of 689 teachers and 7,074 children through our school training this year.

Every teacher trained means another adult better equipped to support a child through grief. 💚

💙 Connecting with Primary Care to Support Bereaved Families 💙

Our Community Liaison Officer recently had the privilege of meeting with the Practice Manager and GPs from Newport Pagnell Medical Centre, Willen Surgery and Kingfisher Surgery to share more about the work of Harry's Rainbow and the support we provide for bereaved children, young people and their families.

It was a fantastic opportunity to talk directly about our services, ensuring that healthcare professionals have accurate information about the support available and feel confident signposting families to us when they may need it most.

As a result of the meeting, our posters and leaflets are now available across all three surgeries, and our poster will also be displayed on the interactive screens in their waiting rooms. They have even requested digital copies of our information so they can continue to share awareness of Harry's Rainbow with families.

Sometimes a single conversation can have a far-reaching impact. Through one meeting, we have potentially helped ensure that many more local families become aware of the support available to them during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for their time, interest and commitment to supporting bereaved families in our community. Working together, we can help ensure that no bereaved child, young person or family feels alone.

As part of Harry's Rainbow's 15th Anniversary year, we are delighted to invite you to our second annual Together We Remember remembrance service, following the heartfelt success of last year's event.

Join us for a special evening of music, reflection and remembrance at the Mercure Milton Keynes Hotel on Wednesday 18th November.

This free community event is open to everyone. You do not need to be connected to Harry's Rainbow to attend.

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, this gentle and comforting service offers a chance to pause, reflect and remember the people we love and miss. Through music, readings and shared moments of remembrance, we will come together as a community to honour those who will always hold a special place in our hearts.

🏃🌈 A huge THANK YOU to Jake Saville and everyone at Two Mile Ash School for their incredible support of Harry's Rainbow! Through their fantastic Cross Country Festival and fundraising efforts, they raised an amazing £576 to help support bereaved children and their families.

The event brought together children, families and schools from across the local community for a day of fun, determination and teamwork, while also raising awareness of the support Harry's Rainbow provides. Organised by Jake Saville, Head of PE at Two Mile Ash School, the event welcomed hundreds of participants and visiting schools, making it a truly special community occasion.

Alison Johnson, Harry's Rainbow Fundraising & Events Manager, said:

"What an amazing idea to fundraise and raise awareness for Harry's Rainbow, whilst also providing a community event for lots of schools in the local area. Thank you so much to Two Mile Ash School and in particular Jake Saville the PE Teacher there who orchestrated this whole thing! We are so grateful and the afternoon was so much fun."

Every pound raised helps us continue supporting local bereaved children, young people and their families when they need it most.
